Help support the Fowlie's with financing non-funded cancer treatment for mums brain cancer.
Auckland
Two years ago mum was diagnosed with HER2 positive, stage 3 breast cancer. Late last year mum received the devastating news that it has spread to her brain, and after the new diagnosis she was given full brain radiation and a drug called Kadcyla. Following a recent MRI, mum found out that the Kadcyla wasn't working on the brain metastasis, so her oncologist has recommended two oral targeted chemotherapy drugs Capecitabine and Neratinib.
Neratinib is not currently funded by Pharmac in New Zealand nor Medsafe approved. The drugs cost $3610 per month which mum will be on indefinitely and an additional $221 every 3 weeks for blood tests. If this drug does not work then mum will be switching to a trial drug, also a non-funded drug which would cost $20,000 per month.
Mum is the most caring, giving, and kind hearted soul. Mum has continued to work for her not-for-profit Aphasia Stroke recovery support group, who assist those in need of rehabilitation following a stroke. She has also remained actively involved at her local gym. Mum has always been first in line to help others in need and the community, and this time we kindly ask for your help. If you are in a position to do so, we would greatly appreciate any support.
