Help the Helping Hand - Support Katikati Community Advocate

$110 of $50,000 goal
Given by 3 generous donors in around 3 months

Our Commmunity Advocate has been helping people for over 3 years, now we need your help.

Katikati, Bay Of Plenty

In our town, when people face unexpected challenges, there’s someone they can turn to. Our Community Advocate is that vital “helping hand” — stepping in to untangle issues before they become overwhelming.

One day it might be helping a elderly person attend an online medical appointment, the next guiding a family through a housing application, or connecting someone to urgent financial support. Sometimes it’s simply being there to listen when no one else can.

Much of this work is preventative — meaning a small amount of time spent now can prevent hardship, stress, and long-term harm later.

In March 2022, we began receiving funding from MSD to support our Community Advocate role. Unfortunately, like many providers across New Zealand, our contract was not renewed and we lost this funding in September 2023.

For the past two years, we've continued funding the Advocate role from our own savings — because we know how vital this support is for our community. But now, our reserves have run out, and we simply can’t keep it going without your help.

If we don’t receive support soon, we risk losing this crucial role that so many in our community rely on.

Your donation keeps this service running and ensures there is always someone ready to listen, guide, and stand beside those in need.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
