Please help a pillar of the Dunedin Community at a very difficult time for her and her Father as he lies in an ICU in Palestine
Otago, Dunedin City
On the 13th of November Mai Tamimi's beloved father(Mohammed hamdi jalal Tamimi) was found lying on his floor, very unwell, he had been their for 12 hours or so.
He was transferred to hospital in Hebron Palestine where he underwent a surgery for a external ventricular drain.
He is currently in intensive care, his Daughter Mai has managed to make it safely to Hebron from Dunedin to be by his side, but this is not easy not very safe in the middle of a war zone.
According to medical staff he faces a long period of rehab. physios, occupational therapy and home care and due to limited abilities and facilities his daughter is going to have to take on this role.
Mai and her family have spent years supporting the Gaza refugees that come into Dunedin and Mai spends hours and hours fundraising to provide support to them now I'm hoping it is time for the community they love so much to help them.
the Tamimi family would literally give you the shirt off their back and them asking me to help with this was very difficult.
Mai's family would love to join her to support and help, but the cost of airfares is extraordinary and there is also a safety issue given the ongoing war.
Any extra funds will be used to help the family while Mai is off work and away from the family,
I have worked in a volunteer basis helping Mai support refuge children and families for a number of years.
Funds will go towards the hospital bills which will be paid directly to the hospital by Mai.
An update from Hebron, the West Bank, Palestine 7 December 2025
Dear supporters,
I wanted to share a quick update about my dad. He has now begun the rehabilitation process, but unfortunately, he hasn’t shown any response to it yet. We are holding on to hope and praying for even the smallest signs of progress.
Adding to the challenge, our city is currently a closed military zone. Movement is restricted, and access to basic necessities, especially medications, has become incredibly difficult. The few medicines that are available are extremely expensive, and many are simply out of reach.
Despite all this, we remain patient and steadfast. Your prayers, kind words, and support mean more than you know. Please keep my dad and us in your thoughts.
With gratitude, Mai
