Help This Pregnant Mama Write Her Dream Concerto!

$110 of $10,000 goal
Given by 2 generous donors in 6 days

Kirsten White has the chance to write her dream cello concerto for Inbal Megiddo, based on the moving story of Jesus' death and resurrection

Auckland

Kirsten has always dreamed of writing a cello concerto about the moving story of Jesus' death and resurrection, ever since she wrote her string quartet "Trees" during her Master of Music at the Royal Academy of Music. Amazingly, during covid, she met and worked with Inbal Megiddo, an incredibly expressive and beautiful cellist, who lectures at Victoria University. Inbal was very keen to work with Kirsten and perform a brand new concerto based on her string quartet "Trees".

Kirsten has been very inspired, and even moved to tears in the process of writing the work. She would love to see cellists around the world perform it, and has already been reaching out to ensembles across New Zealand and overseas, with some encouraging results. The first confirmed performance is with Inbal's string ensemble in Wellington.

Kirsten has received some initial funding from the Todd Trust towards the development of the concerto, but needs your help to give her an equitable commission fee! This would help feed her family as they welcome a little boy into the world. It would also enable her to have her dream concerto professionally filmed, giving the work a wider online reach, and Lord-willing encouraging other cellists, conductors and ensembles to perform it around the world. Practically, Kirsten would also be able to receive mentorship from the acclaimed Scottish composer Helen Grime, MBE while she writes her first concerto.

She would be deeply grateful for any donations you can give. Thank you!!!

Use of funds

This money would largely go towards the commission for the concerto, which can take months to compose and refine. Other costs include high quality videography of the premiere, and composition lessons from the acclaimed Scottish composer Helen Grime, MBE.

Quote Tony Reinke If we look to the heavens or the earth; or the birds, beasts or fishes; or plants and trees; if we do but take notice of it, they declare to us that we ought to worship, to fear, to love and obey, the God that made all these things." Yes, every leaf, every feather, every star is a silent messenger pointing you toward your duty of delight. A universe made by God and for God is not a neutral world; it's "a theatre of God's magnificence" for your senses to delight in the majesty of your God. As creation nudges you toward your God, to be its voice of praise thank the Lord you are answering that nudge, for if not the very rocks would cry out. God bless you Kirsten as you create for His honor and glory.
