Help to secure a long-term home for local charity KiwiHarvest and the great work it does for the community.
Frankton, Queenstown
Sadly through a combination of almost 90% budget cut from the Government to the Food Rescue Sector from $11 million to just over $1 million and significant rising rent our local charity KiwiHarvest can no longer afford to maintain its depot in Queenstown.
We are at imminent risk of having to greatly downsize and reduce capabilities undoing all the hardwork of so many great locals since setting up in 2018 and this would have a significant negative impact on the local environment and so many in the community. Last year our small team and amazing local volunteers across Queenstown, Wanaka and Cromwell were able to rescue a record 120,000 kilos of excess good food from our brilliant local food donors that was destined for landfill and this equates to being able to redistribute over 340,000 meals worth of food to our amazing local charity partners helping people struggling with food insecurity. A simple model the makes a huge impact.
Thankfully the amazing members of The Whakatipu Community Hub Trust in coordination with the council have reached out to offer us a perfect site on the land they have secured for the future Community Hub Build in Frankton. We need these funds to prepare the site in terms of grounds work, electricity hook up, containers and shade covers and fencing. We are on borrowed time with no lease at the present site and so any funds donated to help these works get underway would be huge. We would appreciate any in kind building support if possible!
Kiwi Harvest is New Zealand largest Food Rescue Charity. Our local branch ast year rescued over 120,000 kilos of good food destined for landfill and delivered it to local charities tackling food insecurity. This equates to over 340,000 meals.
These funds will be used to pay for the preparation and set up of our outdoor depot and if in-kind construction support reduces these costs it will go towards ongoing operational costs.
Thanks so much the support team, much appreciated.
