After spending 6 months in South Sudan last year, we are heading back again in April! Last time Trav helped finish off the outpatient clinic - this time he is acting as Project Manager to build a new 20 bed paediatric and maternity ward. The current ward is tiny (only 7 beds)- way too small for the numbers we see in the heat of malaria season, very run down and lacking the basics of even a wash basin to wash hand between patients. And Amy will continue to run the current ward while the new one is being built and educate the local community health workers, who are lacking basic health education.
After coming home last year, we just couldn't continue in our comfortable lives - knowing there is so much work to be done. It is a sacrifice - we are leaving our home, our jobs and our family - putting ourselves at risk in a very unstable country - to serve the poorest of the poor. Honestly, we saw how South Sudan, a war-ravaged country that is so developmentally behind and lacking the most basic health care services, truly is one of the most poorest nations on earth. They have absolutely nothing! So please consider helping us bring a little light and hope to the beautiful people of South Sudan :)
Amy will have to leave her job and Trav will take unpaid leave, so we will have no income and need to cover costs for our flights, visas, immunisations, insurance and living expenses in South Sudan
