The White Shark Conservation Trust is raising funds to purchase a drone to track sharks along our coastline. Help us raise NZ$5,000

Nationwide

Every summer, white sharks are encountered in various locations along our coast. Last summer, there were numerous sightings along the coastline between Waihi/Bowentown and Tauranga. One way of tracking sharks along our coastline is by use of a drone. Using a drone provides a unique opportunity to observe sharks without any contact. Drones have been used highly successfully to observe sharks feeding off the western Australian and Eastern United States coastlines, and here in New Zealand, they have been used to track manta rays. Being able to launch a drone to survey, we would also be in a position to advise local Surf Life Saving or coastal authorities of shark presence if necessary. We want to increase our capability in tracking and monitoring white sharks along our coast by purchasing a drone and are hoping you can help us. We need to raise NZ$5,000 to purchase a suitable drone for the task.

About us

The White Shark Conservation Trust has been established to promote awareness of the need to conserve and protect the white shark, Carcharodon carcharias and to educate the public about the animal.

Use of funds

All the funds will be spent on a Drone. Any shortfall we will try to top up to make the purchase.
