Funds to Purchase New Pasteurizing Machine desperately needed to feed Pre-Mature Babies
Palmerston North, Manawatu-Wanganui
Our Hard-working Pasteurizing Machine just broke!!! We desperately need a new one!
The size of machine we need costs about $100,000. We have been promised $50,000 if we can fund the rest.
Whangai Ora Milk Bank was started during World Breastfeeding Week in August 2020 to
Store, Supply, Pasteurize and Distribute milk from our carefully Screened donors for
Pre-mature and Vulnerable babies.
The first donor milk was given out in Nov 2020. Since then, we have given out:
1989 Liters of milk and fed 918 babies!
Just over half of this volume has gone to the tiny Pre-mature babies in the Neonatal Unit.
When stocks permitted, additional milk goes out to babies of ill mothers (Mothers battling Cancer or under-going Emergency Surgery)
Milk also goes out into the community with babies struggling to put weight on, babies needing Milk Top up's while their Mothers increase their own milk supply as well as Adoptive babies.
While this is a small number of babies, they were taking much bigger volumes of milk at a time.
All this was made possible by The Wrights Family and relatively few Donor Mums.
91 Lovely Donors have given us 2089 litres over the past two years! Their help has been outstandingly generous!
Our dedicated volunteers spend on average 35 hours a week pasteurizing the milk. There is also a fair bit of work behind the scenes, preparing the milk as well as organizing the Distribution side of things
Whangai Ora Milk Bank runs off volunteers and donations
