Help us fight cancer with HOPE

  • Update

      16 July 2023

Hi everyone, Belinda left NZ this morning to go for her cancer treatment in South Africa. The last few weeks was rough on her, dealing with flu, secondary infection from the flu and also a large hernia in her stomach. When she returns to NZ in August she will have to go for surgery to repair the hernia.

Thank you to everyone who is supporting Belinda and also her page.

Please continue to pray for strength and please share our page ❤️

For all those people who contributed to my Give a Little Page a huge thank you. Just a follow up - for those who are following my journey 😊

I am back in NZ and will be flying to South Africa in July for another treatment. The growth has stopped and there aren’t any new tumours or growth. It seemed to have stabilised. Please keep me in your prayers and continue to pray for a miracle.

Thank you for all the prayers and love 🙏❤️

  • Help Belinda fight cancer with HOPE

      23 March 2023

    Hi everyone!

Belinda had her second PRRT treatment on Monday. She had a scan today and by the looks of it, the cancer has stopped growing. She needs to continue treatment for it to shrink.

She will contact her oncologist in New Zealand again and ask them to consider the treatment here as this proves that it is the correct treatment for her cancer.

Thank you for all your donations and also for supporting Belinda in her cancer journey. Without your financial support this treatment would not have been possible.

We still need funding to help Belinda fight her cancer.

Please help me by sharing this page.

    Regards,

    Annelize

  • Quick Update

      13 February 2023

    Hi everyone,

Just a quick update on Belinda.

Belinda is doing well under the circumstances. She is currently spending time with her mom and sister in Nelspruit.

My heart aches for her and Johan as he had to leave her behind in South Africa due to work commitments, these two soulmates are inseparable and this is the longest they have been apart from each other. I think not knowing what the future holds makes it even more difficult but we will keep on praying, Belinda will keep on fighting and we are positive.

Belinda’s cancer treatment is once every 8 weeks. Her next treatment is due on 15 March and the doctor will do a scan to see if the treatment is working - once she has recovered. As far as I know she has to isolate for 4 days after a session.

The oncologist did a blood test recently and he is happy with her liver function, which is great news, as the cancer in her liver is very aggressive.

Belinda will only return to New Zealand in July after completing 4 cancer treatment sessions.

I would just like to give a special thank you to the South African Church in Whangarei and Biltong Plus in Wellsford. You have been so supportive, no words can explain my gratitude. Whilst we had flooding and placed under a State of Emergency in New Zealand, they offered their time to sell boerewors rolls to raise funds for Belinda. Actions speaks louder than words and your support has given Belinda so much hope. Thank you!

To be a immigrant in another country is hard and to be diagnosed with a terminal illness without the support of family nearby, makes it even harder but the support from everyone who has donated has given so much hope and I just want to thank everyone on this page for this.

Thank you for your donations and thank you for sharing Belinda’s page! ❤️

  • Treatment South Africa

Thank you everyone for your generous donations and for supporting Belinda with her fight against cancer!

Belinda boarded her flight at 6am this morning and is on her way to South Africa for PRRT treatment. She can not get this treatment in New Zealand and her NZ oncologist is supporting this treatment.

We still need funding to help Belinda. The cost for the treatment is approximately $34000, this does not include flights. Belinda will be in SA for approximately 4 months.

The treatment will not cure the cancer but it will slow the aggressiveness of her cancer and give her years to live instead of a few months.

Please continue praying and sharing this page.

    Take care!

    Annelize

  • Funds urgently needed to help Belinda ❤️

      13 December 2022

We have received an email from Belinda’s oncologist confirming there is no treatment available for her in New Zealand and they have motivated her to go for the PRRT treatment in South Africa.

We urgently need assistance with funding to make this possible for her.

This is the actual email received and I removed names due to confidentiality.

I have spoken to the “oncologist”: Firstly 1) We plan to redicuss Belinda’s case on Friday, however he was very clear that our funding in the New Zealand setting will not cover the PRRT for Belinda at the speed at which we would want this to happen is not feasible here and therefore keeping the existing plan for treatment is South Africa is likely best. If the date for treatment is 17th Jan then if she calls the unit to confirm they will administer octreotide one day next week this should be the last dose prior to treatment. They like approx. 4 weeks break. Secondly, I should also point out that in the recommendations from Sydney it included the plan to perform SBRT (v high dose radiation) to the discordant sites of disease- this would be an unfunded option also as SBRT is not funded for below the diagphragm here in New Zealand either. The endless constraints of working in the NZ health system are very evident here. If you wanted to pursue this I could refer you for a consult in the private sector which should happen quite quickly. It might be worth being very clear on the feasibility of this part of the treatment before the trip to South Africa.

Thank you to everyone who has contributed so far, please keep on praying and sharing this page.

  • Progress Update for Belinda ♥

      22 November 2022

Just an update on our progress so far.

Belinda is currently undergoing her second dose of intravenous chemo treatment in an attempt to slow the growth of her cancer. She will soon have tests done to see if anything has changed. Please keep my friend in your prayers. ♥

We had a bit of a bumpy road the past two weeks and was so happy when the oncologist in South Africa offered to assist with the required PRRT treatment. Unfortunately, the oncologist withdrew her assistance for a unknown reason, we are still trying to get to the bottom of this but have not had any feedback since. This was a HUGE setback and obviously devastating news, but we will keep on fighting this cancer with hope.

We have now found another oncologist who believes Belinda’s cancer is treatable with PRRT treatment and they are currently reviewing all Belinda’s paperwork and scans. They have a board meeting on Thursday and will provide feedback early next week. This doctor is based in Stellenbosch, Cape Town. I will post more information as soon as I have an update.

We accept the things we cannot change but while there is still a heartbeat there is HOPE.

Please share our page and continue to pray for Belinda ♥

  • Urgent funding support required for Belinda ♥

      12 November 2022

    Hi everyone,

As you are aware, Belinda has been diagnosed with incurable metastatic high grade neuroendocrine cancer which is very aggressive. Doctors has given her months to live, and not years.

Please share our page to see if we can assist her in getting the $30 000 for her PRRT treatment. The treatment will not cure the cancer but it will definately extend her live to spend more time with her family.

    We can't let go without a fight! Where there's a heartbeat, there's hope ♥

    Please support our cause ♥

  • PRRT Treatment available for Belinda in South Africa! Please help us raise $30 000!

      11 November 2022

Hi guys, we have some great news!

We found a doctor in South Africa who will give Belinda the treatment she needs for this cancer! This is called PRRT treatment and they can start between 12 - 16 December.

Belinda will have to fly to SA and we can not do this without your support. We need to raise at least $30 000 for this treatment plus flights, to help her fight this cancer. Their quote is by far the most affordable.

Please share this page to help us raise funds ♥

  • Update on Belinda

      9 November 2022

I would like to share a update on Belinda but would first like to say thank you for supporting her! We really appreciate all the contributions we have received so far! Please do share our page because without you, alternative therapy will not be possible.

Doctors started intravenous chemotherapy in an attempt to slow down the aggressiveness of her cancer. The therapy makes her feel very sick but Belinda is a fighter, she will keep on fighting and has decided to fight the cancer with a positive attitude. Doctor said this will not kill the cancer but will slow the growth to have more time with her loved ones.

She had a consultation with the doctors in Israel and Taiwan and the cost for alternative treatment is $100 000. She is also awaiting a review from a doctor in South Africa which could be more affordable but we will update as soon as we have feedback.

Please keep on praying for Belinda ❤️❤️
