We’re a Kiwi family currently located in the US seeking help to get home to ensure the health and safe delivery of our child.
Auckland
We have just found out that we’re pregnant and we are super excited to welcome this newborn into our lives. Unfortunately, this time of joy and anticipation has been weighed down by the impending tremendous medical debt we will incur if we give birth in the US. As well as the added stress of America’s childbirth mortality rate being higher than any other developed country, especially so as a woman of colour. To put it bluntly, America is a healthcare mess.
Throughout all three trimesters, between our Dr’s appointments, ultrasounds, blood work, prescriptions and then all that is associated with giving birth via a likely c-section due to previous medical complications- the overall estimated cost of giving birth is around 25K USD! Already we have missed crucial check ups, ultrasounds and bloodwork because the cost is just too expensive. Simply put, we just cannot afford to give birth in the US.
We have worked out that it will be SUBSTANTIALLY cheaper to pay for flights home to Aotearoa New Zealand where I’ll have access to affordable healthcare than it is to stay put in the US and end up with an outrageous medical bill.
We are saving as much as can however our disposable income is drastically limited. So we are desperately pleading for any donations to help pay for flights home to ensure the health and safe delivery of our child.
No matter how big or small the donation - it’ll all make a big difference to our lives and is extremely appreciated!
Love and light,
Helvi’virr family
