Obi’s Elbow Dysplasia Journey

Fighting for our puppy

Canterbury

Hi everyone,

It is with a heavy heart that Josh & I share our puppy Obi has been diagnosed with severe elbow dysplasia in both front legs. Elbow dysplasia, in Obi's case, is an inherited disease that causes the elbow joints to form and grow incorrectly. As a result, even as a young puppy, Obi has been in excruciating pain and unable to live a normal life.

Obi needs invasive surgery ASAP to treat it before it gets any worse. Without treatment he would deteriorate quickly… If you know us, you’ll know how much we love our boy. He is our best friend and we had no choice but to fight for him. Josh and I have committed to his surgery, which will be happening on August 3rd.

UPDATE: 15.07.2021

Hi everyone!

We are so excited to update you with the news that we have managed to secure surgery down here in Christchurch for Obi on August 3rd!

For Obi this means he is closer to home, with a much better chance of recovery because he won't be under the enormous stress of the long journey. We also save the extra $4,000 we needed by not using the specialist Auckland clinic that was one of the most expensive in NZ.

We are so relieved and excited about this as it most importantly means we can lower our funding goal to $1500 and put everything towards Obi's recovery journey.

Recovery from elbow dysplasia surgery is critical for the longevity of a dogs life. Obi will need hydrotherapy, physiotherapy, pain & arthritis management as well as supplement support to control his ongoing osteoarthritis and rebuild his legs.

None of this comes cheap, and the remainder of our $8,000 insurance cover will all go towards covering his surgery. Before this update, our soul focus was getting him through the surgery and figuring the rest out afterwards. Now, thanks to this massive change, we are blessed enough to be able to put your generous donations towards his recovery and healing.

We can't say thank you enough to those of you who have donated. Without you, none of this would be possible and from the bottom of our hearts we are so grateful.

We will continue to update you along the way. Counting down the days to August 3rd!

Kate, Josh and Obi xx
