We are raising funds for Dad and awareness for Motor Neuron's Disease.
Hawke's Bay
Blair, Brad and Verity are doing "dry July" but for a cause that's hitting closer to home, Motor Neuron's Disease. (story written by Verity, his daughter)
The picture of health, Dad is the guy fishing and hunting often alone, in his early 60's, working in the Hunting and Fishing store, taking guys half his age out for "walks", fitter than anyone we know, we started noticing little things like like slurred speech, then the weight loss, it took around 4 to 5 months of tests, doctors, specialist meetings before we got the diagnosis of Motor Neuron's Disease in August 2018.
We nearly lost him in November, he went in for a routine procedure, having a "peg" tube put in, to assist with food and medicine intake when things get worse. The op went off without incident, however is oxygen levels were not good, he slipped into a comer. All the doctors prepared us for the worst case scenario, I walk in expecting to turn off life saving measures.... He wakes up, an so they say, the story goes on.
Pat is my father, currently i am assisting financially but am unable to help fund everything he needs to make the time he has left comfortable
funds will be used to pay any shortfall on personnel on incidentals, as he lives rural funding is limited and we are not sure how frequent or long we will need them, and wood for heating
Thank you 28 July 2019
It is with a heavy heart I make this update. Sadly dad passed away Monday night and was farewelled on Friday. Thank you all so much for your support with us doing dry July to help raise funds, he would be proud that even during this time we have stayed the course, he was a firm believer that you should finish what you start, and stay true to your word.
