Protect Aotea are stopping Ports of Auckland and Auckland Council from destroying precious areas of ocean ecology by dumping dredge waste.

International

Protect Aotea are well on our way to stopping Ports of Auckland and Auckland City Council from destroying precious areas of our ocean ecology through their dumping of dredge waste.

We are challenging their understanding of Tiriti o Waitangi in the Environment Court right now.

At the end of 2019 we won in the High Court, Wellington challenging on the same points of law. We are confident in the strength of our case this time, too.

Many very talented and skilled people are donating time to this project, but we also need to pay our amazing legal team - that is where your koha will go.

Contributing will help us achieve our ultimate goal of diverting all dredge waste as a resource, rather than making an environmental liability of it.

Use of funds

We have an amazing legal team, and skilled volunteers working on this, but it is quite a massive job. Funding will go towards lawyers and legal fees.

2% Effective Fee
On average, fundraisers pay just 2% to use Givealittle. This is one of the lowest effective fees in New Zealand fundraising. We charge a 5% platform fee to cover the cost of running the platform. Because most donors choose to top up their donation to cover this fee, the effective cost paid by fundraisers is about 2%. That means around 98 cents of every dollar raised goes to the cause.
