Wellington
Conductive Education Wellington Trust is a small Centre based in Lower Hutt. We provide early childhood education and intervention for children with Motor disorders and other diverse neurological conditions. Our current role is 20 children.
In 1997 after a mammoth fundraising effort by committed founding parents we opened our own purpose building on the current site. Since that time there have been multiple issues with the building. The building was placed in the wrong position and with substandard piles for the land it is on.
The building is a series of two prefabricated buildings built and transported to site. It sits on an old football field which has a high water table. Unfortunately, as the seasons change the building continues to move and slump with the weather requiring constant maintenance.
We have found the needs of our children have changed since the centre was built - we now require more space. All our children have significant needs – many rely of wheelchairs and walkers to mobilize.
We face an uncertain future – there is no help available through government agencies currently, so we are faced with the task of raising the funds to rebuild our Centre. This is a huge undertaking for a small Centre with already stressed families. We have started this give a little page to help us on our way to rebuilding. We are aiming high if we don't reach our target all donations will be held for building.
Conductive Education Wellington Trust is a licensed Early Childhood Centre. We are a charitable trust dedicated to improving the quality of life of children with neuro-motor disorders between the ages of 6mths to 6 years and their whanau.
Our current building is significantly damaged - it is our dream to rebuild. The demand on early childhood intervention services has swelled. If we are forced to close the community as a whole will be placed under further pressure.
