If you would love to see MTB tracks, trails, and exciting features suitable for all ages and abilities, please give us your support.

Bay of Plenty

COVID 19 has taught us all that we need to focus on finding local solutions to local problems.

The Whakatane and Ohope townships have for years been without riding tracks suitable for all levels of mountain biking. Our local MTB'ers leave town to ride and out of town riders give Whakatane a wide berth.

The Mountain Bike Club has been working with Whakatane District Council to find suitable land to build MTB tracks and trails for a few years now. The Waiewe Reserve (a Storm Water reserve) near

Appenzell Drive has been identified as an area suitable for short tracks and skills features that is easily accessible, ideally sorted to all ability levels, and has existing tracks in place.

As a mountain biking community, we see this as a great first step towards making the Whakatane and Ohope a great place to ride. A place that we can promote as not just MTB friendly, but MTB exciting!

Use of funds

Funding will be spent on professional trail design and building and any surplus will be used for future local tracks that we are developing in partnership with Whakatane District Council and private landowners.
