A plea to keep Wendy well by funding the medication she needs to stay well
Rotorua, Bay Of Plenty
Wendy Peterson has spent her life caring for others. A much-loved Rotorua teacher from 1970–2016, she dedicated more than four decades to educating and supporting countless young people. She also raised four sons on her own.
In 2020, Wendy became unwell, and after many tests and surgeries she was diagnosed with metastatic squamous cell carcinoma.
Since then, Wendy has endured an incredible journey of treatments and uncertainty. For two years, she travelled to Auckland almost weekly for clinical trials and different medications, searching for something that would work.
Eventually, Wendy began Keytruda, which has helped keep her cancer stable and has become vital to her ongoing health. Unfortunately, it is not publicly funded for her diagnosis.
Initially, treatment cost around $10,000 every three weeks, the first ten treatments cost her $100,000. To continue treatment, Wendy even had to make the heartbreaking decision to sell part of her home.
Her treatment is now every six weeks at $2,064 per dose, but this remains a significant ongoing cost.
Wendy has spent her life giving to others as a teacher, mum, friend and valued member of our community. Now, let's give back
Any donation, big or small, will help Wendy continue the treatment that is keeping her cancer stable. If you can’t donate, please share this page with your friends, whānau and community.
Wendy has spent a lifetime making a difference in the lives of others.
Now, let’s come together and make a difference in hers. ❤️
I am a friend of Wendys and help her out in her garden
The money will be spent on paying for her Keytruda, which will help Wendy stay independent in her own home with good quality of life as long as possible
