My whanau are extremely grateful for your support, both financially and emotionally.

So much love and kindness shown and shared with us, giving us the strength to continue fighting for Justice for our loved one, Jason.

We were able to pay our legal support for a small portion of what is going to be ongoing.

Unfortunately, we have hit another road block, with the NZ Police admitting they are under resourced, and therefore, have not made any progress with Jason's case.

Without the completion of the police investigation, the coronial Inquest can not begin.

This, in turn, has a ripple effect, as those government agencies involved, are yet to be held to account, including the contractor.

We tried reaching out to the Ombudsman's office by means of lodging formal complaints.

They have also passed the buck, stating they don't want to overlap with the Coroner.

So no one is doing anything, which was highlighted in a recent TVNZ interview we had.

Our whanau are once again left in limbo, in no man's land.

The page has been closed so Thankyou once again.

    Whanau of Jason Butler.

To Jason’s family - we are so sorry about this unjust situation. It’s simply not good enough, and a sad indictment on our country. As the parent of a vulnerable person who as a victim has twice been badly let down by the justice system, I’m angered all the more. We all need to demand that the NZ Police is better resourced to deliver justice for EVERYONE. No one should be going in to the too hard basket. Our precious loved ones deserve better.

    Hello,

on behalf the whānau of Jason Butler, I would like to thank you for the generosity you've shown in not just making a donation to this Givealittle campaign, but also in the heartfelt, moving and encouraging comments that have been sent through on this page.

Jason's only sibling Huia has asked me to pass on this message:

"My Whanau and I have been truly touched by the generosity shown by many and all of your heartfelt comments, many from personal experiences. Thanks to this kindness and generosity, we are able to start moving forward with our legal support."

It is distressing to read how many of you have been motiviated to support Jason's whānau as a result of a personal situation or experience that has been a bit similar to what Jason and/or his family have been through so far. For those of you still hurting for your own experience, ka aroha. Our thoughts are with you, too.

Huia was able to speak on RNZ's Nine To Noon show on Tuesday this week. If you missed it, you can listen here: https://www.rnz.co.nz/national/programmes/ninetonoon/audio/2018886542/a-litany-of-failures-for-missing-maio-man

Right now, this fundraiser stands at $8,190. The whānau lawyer has advised Huia that the first stage of mahi will cost around $10,000 so we are very close to the goal of being able to ask the lawyer to start work and cover the first payment.

(NB: we don't know exactly how much this will cost, which is why we have set an overall goal of $40,000).

You have done so much already to help, so we're not asking you for any more.

Instead, if you can, please consider just sharing this Givealittle campaign with your friends, whānau and anyone else you think might be interested.

We'll keep you updated once the lawyer has started. We'll keep working with the good people at TVNZ, RNZ and Stuff if there are any newsworthy developments.

Again, thank you all for your support, encouragement and kind and generous words. What Jason's whānau are going through is hard, but knowing each of you is there in support makes things a little easier. Huia will continue towards the goal of getting justice for Jason, and the answers and closure his whānau deserve.

    Ngā manaakitanga,

    from Huia's support crew.
