Help Us Finish/Fix Our Whare Kai! (Kitchen & Dining Hall)

I am from a Maori Tribe called Ngati Te Ata in Waiuku, our Marae has been around for as long as I can remember and for over 20 years has not had a usable Whare Kai (Kitchen & Dining Hall).

For the past 20 years we have not had a facility to host and cater to our guests and family.

We have had to 'make do' with a portable kitchen which has consisted of; open fires for cooking, portable tables for preparation, pop up marquees for shelter, and buckets for all the washing up.

Over 20 years ago, we once had a Whare Kai, but due to it being run down and having asbestos in it, it had to be pulled down and our tribe has never had the funds to rebuild it.

At a recent Tangi (Funeral) Mr Te Whareroa Kaihau voiced his opinion of being 'fed up' and having had enough of how we are having to host and cater to our guests and family.

It upsets him to see his people having to slave away in the mud and rain, trying to cook and cater to over 300 people at one time.

In light of this, Te Whareroa has decided to do all he can to get funding and get moving with building our Whare Kai.

We have made a start on the building but are nowhere near finished and do not have the funds to continue with building our Whare Kai.

Please help us, to help Te Whareroa, raise the funds he needs to finish our Whare Kai!
