to Help with this unexpected vet cost to save my dog life
Manawatu / Whanganui
It started last Friday night when my 10 yr old healthy dog whom was a purebred German Rottweiler was not himself. It was like he needed to go to toilet but couldn’t. I noticed this about 11pm so I left him outside in his kennel which he hardly used as he always slept inside. I checked on him every hour but he just lying there. So first think Saturday morning I rushed him out to the Massey University Vet clinic they were shut but opened up and explained to me that Saturday morning is an after hour service. They quickly checked him out and said he looks like he had twisted his stomach and will need urgent surgery to correct it. Being an A/H service the cost of op will be $6000 and $3000 will be needing to be paid before the can help him. As I explained that I can’t give them 3000 right now they said they can’t do the op advised me to try some other vets that have surgery’s.
I was gobsmacked by their response. I left my boy there and raced back to town to try and find someone who able to lend me 3000. I had good friend said they able to loan me 1000 if that helped. I drove to every vet in Palmerston to ask if they were able to do emergency surgery to save my dog’s life. Only 1 out of the six I tried could do as the others already had operations booked or doing them. So I picked Kobi up from Massey and raced him to animates vet clinic and they then checked him out and said that they would need $3500 to do the operation and that they would do xrays to see what had happened. When I went back there they had done nothing to him and had said for them to operate they need to be paid 3500 up front first I said I only had 1000 I can give but please can u just operate and I will sort after still they refused to help then I found out the surgeon told me she had only done one of the operation before. Upon asking on social media of anyone who knew a vet surgeon I was told to try Pahiatua vets and Rangitikei vets, they all could not do surgery that day. Then I saw a message saying ‘ring Foxton Vet Clininc NOW!!’. So I rang the vet clinic and spoke to Charlie Boyce he was the owner of Foxton vet clinic; I explained to him what I was going through and he said go pick him up from the animate vet and get him down to him immediately and he would meet me at his vet clinic. So I picked up Kobi from animates and upon arrival at Foxton vet clinic kobi was still with us. We lifted him up onto the surgeon table and went straight to work on him they were even kind enough to let me be there while he operated on him the nurse was saying it good to talk to kobi let him know I’m here. So kobi Tummy was shaved and surgery sticker stuck to his belly. He was cut open and pressure was finally relieved his stomach has burst and was not good the surgeon cut out have him stomach and stitched the good half back together and cleaned him out. Final stage was when he was flushing him out with saline through a small hole left in his belly as a drain at this stage he was still hanging in there I had to leave the surgery room to get some fresh air as I was not feeling very well. 5 mins later the vet come out to say that his heart had stopped and he has passed away. Now this man did his upmost to save my dog he said had he been taken to him at 8am he would have survived it. The dog went through too much stress over the last 6 hours and due to the stomach bursting he basically was poisoned internally. This Man Charlie Boyce and his nurse put off family dinner arrangements both of whom had prior things to be doing before trying to help save Kobi life. I take my hat off to them and can’t say enough good words about them. Foxton vets charged me $1550 and did not want anything on the day. It took them an 1 1/4 hours to have him cut open stomach unblocked and sewn back together.
I am fundraising to help pay this unexpected vet costs and to help find another pup for my girl who is sadly missing him. She keeps looking for him when I take her for a drive when she is eating her dinner she takes one dog biscuit and leaves on his bed hoping he will come home and eat it and make her happy again so it has been a stress full weekend just been gone I took kobi body home and buried him on Sunday night in a favourite place in some native bush where he used to love going walking thank u everyone who supported us on the manawatu lost and found pets page on fb
He was my boy for 8 years I rehomed Kobi as had been attacked by previous owners younger dog and I took him in to mend him , when I took him back he didn’t want to get out of the car so they decided he was better off with me so he been with me ever since
To pay the vet bills incurred trying to save Kobi life and find a replacement pup to keep my other dog company (kobi best friend)
