Help Wolfy heal: Supporting his road to recovery.

Fundraising to relieve financial pressure as Wolfy's parents focus on his health, recovery, and healing, in the months ahead.

Manukau, Auckland

Wolfy is my precious 8 years old, non-verbal and on the spectrum Grandson.

What began as “a bit of a cold” and a tummy bug on Friday with a visit to the GP, everything changed for Wolfy and his family in just 24 hours. By next day, Saturday 29 August evening, he was admitted to the Critical Care ICU at Middlemore Hospital, fighting Influenza A, staph pneumonia and sepsis.

His Mum and Dad have stayed by his side ever since then, day and night, holding his hand, watching every laboured breath, and trying to stay strong through a fear no parent should have to face.

On Tuesday 8 September, Wolfy was transferred to Starship Hospital because he was not getting better. Each hour has brought hope and heartbreak, with small signs of progress followed by sudden setbacks.

After a procedure to insert a drainage tube for empyema, Wolfy now faces months of recovery in hospital and at home. He will miss the rest of this school term, and one parent will need to step away from work for the remainder of 2026 to become his full-time caregiver as he slowly heals and rebuilds his strength.

This means Wolfy’s family will lose one income, while still managing travel to and from Starship Hospital, the mortgage and bills, and caring for his sisters.

If you are able to gift even a dollar, any donation will help ease the pressure so his parents can focus on being by his side and helping him through the long recovery ahead.

Our brave Wolfy.   15 September 2026

Wolfy's drainage tube fell out of his chest yesterday triggering an emergency medical response.

When the drainage tube completely fell out during Wolfy's empyema treatment, the most immediate danger of this for Wolfy is pneumothorax, where outside air rushes into the open wound and collapses the lung. Luckily, the medical staff were there immediately and managed it safely. They sealed up the hole and waited to see how he would be without another tube, because it was Day 4 since the drainage tube was inserted and by then, they expected the fluid/pus to be almost fully drained out.

However, an X-ray this morning showed that some air bubbles were showing in his chest cavity from when the tube fell out, and it also showed a lot more fluid than expected left in the chest cavity.

His temperature went high again overnight, indicating the infection is still lingering in his bloodstream despite the very strong Antibiotics he has been on for over weeks.

He is having another surgical procedure right now to get the drainage tube reinserted.

Thank you all for your love and prayers and donations for Wolfy 🤎🙏🏾🤎🙏🏾🤎🙏🏾🤎
