18 month Chloe is a wee fighter against Cancer

Nelson / Tasman

On the 11th of September 2014 the Sexton's completed their family by bringing a beautiful wee girl Chloe into their lives. Chloe is the much loved daughter of Jamie (aka Porky) and Colette. She is the youngest sibling to Emma 8 and Connor 6.

All was well in the Sexton family, Jamie and Colette were dairy farm managers living on site with Emma and Connor attending the local school in Tapawera. All seemed to be trucking on as planned, Wee Chloe had had the normal colds over winter but nothing suspect until one day in November of 2015 when Colette went to get Chloe out of her cot she noticed some blood in her cot and on the front of her pj's. No cuts or abrasions were present and she immediately made her a doctors appointment and brought her to the doctor for a check up, with suspected ear ache also. What was discovered that day by the doctor was any parents worst nightmare... The doctor discovered a lump in Chloe's abdomen an further tests were then undertaken.

The following few days were filled with ultrasounds at Nelson Hospital, blood and urine tests, flown to CHCH Hospital (CHOC Ward), inserting of a kidney tube, MRI Scan and by the Thursday Chloe had been diagnosed with having Cancer.

The tumour was the size of a large grapefruit, so large for one so small. The name of the cancer is a Neuroblastoma (I do hope I have spelt that correctly). The tumour originated from the nerve endings on her spine and wrapped around her urethra (kidney to bladder). At that point in time it was not know if it had spread anywhere else.

To be able to safely remove the tumour, Chloe would have to undergo 4 rounds of Chemo in an attempt to shrink the tumour to safely remove it.

On the 10th of March 2016, Chloe underwent her surgery and they have successfully removed the horrid tumour! Looking at the photo of the tumour sent to me, it still after being shrunk by 75% looks to be 5 cms in length and approx. 4 cms in width.

During this time as you can well imagine, the emotional, physical and financial strain that this has been put before her family to cope with has been huge, but yet this loving family has battled on, not asking for help and in fact at the time not wanting a give a little page set up for them, finally the time has come that I have been allowed by them to set this up for them.

During these last few months, Colette has stayed by Chloe's side down in CHCH supporting her daughter 100%, but meaning that she has had to be away from the family home here in Nelson with Jamie and her two other children. Jamie has been looking after Emma and Connor trying to keep life as normal as possible for them, as well as working and then all the travel between home and CHCH backwards and forwards.

Unfortunately the family got struck down again when Jamie's work contract was terminated the very day before little Chloe went for her surgery as if that wasn't enough for them to have to deal with already! So now not only are they living through the nightmare they have been but to now have no job and.... as farm managers, the home they lived in was no longer theirs.

Now this family does not want me to write a sob story, they don't want pity, in fact they are very reluctant to of even had this page set up, but they need support now. I hope they don't see what I have written as a sob story for I feel that everything they are going through is far from that. This is just a wee insight into what they have and are still coping with as a family. To put myself into the head space that they have been living with is something I am not capable of, I can only but imagine. So with that I ask of you to show your support to this amazing family and wee Chloe in her battle against this dreaded disease that has affected so many peoples lives. Funds donated for the Sexton Family will be used to go towards ongoing medical costs, travel expenses and the extra day to day living costs that are incurred since Chloe was diagnosed.

I thank you all in advance for your generosity.

Julie McKenna's involvement (page creator)

I am involved because Porky (Jamie) has been in my life for the last 20 years, I consider him to be my brother. During this time, he has been my rock so many times, he is the God Father to my children and knowing that saying...."it will be ok matey", just doesn't cut it. When Porky met Colette and they became husband and wife, wow, that was obviously one of the happiest days of his life, added to only when each of their awesome children were born. I am honoured and blessed to have each and every one of them in my life and this page is just a small token of appreciation that I have for them. Porky, Colette, Emma, Connor and wee Chloe.... I love you all and thankyou for all that you are. I really hope that this helps you out. Much love always, Jewels x0x0x
