I have started this page so Mel and her children can live as comfortable as possible at this extremely hard time.
Canterbury
In the early hours of May 1st 2017 Dean was involved in a high impact car accident, involving a freighting truck and one other vehicle near Orari.
Dean suffered multiple injuries and was put into an induced coma so his body could relax after such a horrible accident.
Dean's right side of his body suffered the most impact causing copious amounts of shattered and broken bones including his femur, tibia, fibula, pelvis, hips, ribs, humorous, wrist and shoulder bones, with a few, including the femur, penetrating the skin. His left side suffered a significant amount of broken bones also but not as severe as the right side of his body, He [Dean] also had internal bleeding of his Spleen, due to the crash.
On the 1st of May, Dean underwent an 8 hour surgery to stop the bleeding and stabilise his bones, especially the ones that had penetrated the skin, so they would not move any further, the surgeon referred to this as 'scaffolding'.
There was a high risk that his bones may of got damaged due to bacteria as they were still exposed until surgery was performed.
On the 2nd of May, Dean had an MRI to check for ligament, neck and spinal damage. The results showed no significant damage which was a blessing in disguise.
Dean has undergone many surgeries since, including skin graphing and puzzle piecing bones of each limb back in place with additions of 'metal plating'
As of the 9th of May dean has been lifted from the induced coma slightly, twice, showing signs of response.
He still is awaiting an operation for ankles and feet and his left knee.
The reason I have created this page is because Dean is the main earner for himself, Mel and his four children. With Mel not being able to work, so she can care for her children full time and spending as much possible time with Dean, they will soon come into extreme financial Hardship. I would like them to be able to live as comfortable as possible through this difficult and confusing time.
The future is unclear in these early stages but updates will become available when more information is available.
We are all staying as optimistic as possible and praying for the best outcome overall. Your prayers, thoughts and donations are very much appreciated by all, especially Mel and her children.
