We need your help so that our friend Jay can continue his battle with cancer!
Auckland
Update for all the generous donors:
Firstly, I would like to thank each one of you for your generous donations.
Jay and Rabia have been overwhelmed and are grateful for all the support, wishes and prayers they have received over the past few weeks.
Jay has undergone his first cycle of the treatment and is in good spirits.
There has been some positive news from the insurance front – they have now confirmed that they will be contributing $35k towards the treatment. This combined with all the generous donations has taken us much closer to our goal (of $85k) to help fund treatment and support both Jay and Rabia while they continue to bravely battle through this very difficult time.
Their story:
Our dear friend Jay (33 yrs old) was diagnosed with high grade brain cancer / tumor 9 years ago.
Since then he has battled cancer head-on with great courage and support from family over the years.
He did spend a number of years cancer-free but during a routine check up in 2014, he was diagnosed with a relapse and has been through surgeries, chemotherapy and radiation cycles.
Since the relapse treatment began in 2014, his mobility has been severely impacted and he is unable to work. His wife Rabia has been juggling work, home and trips to the hospital.
A recent MRI scan has shown further damage to the spine. Hence, his current condition cannot be treated through surgery, chemotherapy or radiation.
Specialists have given hope in treatment via a combination of Avastin and Irinotecan drugs, BUT these are not funded by public healthcare (PHARMAC) in New Zealand. The treatment comes at a cost of NZ $90,000 of which the insurance company has agreed to pay $10,000 - but still leaves a shortfall of $80,000.
With this page we hope to raise enough funds to support Jay and his wife Rabia financially during this treatment.
Every day his condition deteriorates but he still greets us with a smile and his fighting spirit.
As you may be aware, cancer treatment takes a toll on not just the individual but also on their families. This has put a lot of pressure on not only time and resources but also the tremendous financial burden that comes with it.
I am a close friend of Rabia and Jay. So helping them through their fight.
No amount is too great or too small. Your donation will contribute directly towards his treatment and to support them in their fight!
