Hi everyone
6 December 2016Thank you everyone for the kind wishes and donations. Its been a tough few weeks. Having finished the last round of chemo we came home for a break but ended up with two weeks out of three hospitalised for infection and visiting hospital most other days for check ups.
Hannah came right in time to travel down to Christchurch to start her week about chemo. She receives a 24 hour delivery of chemo via IV plus some others then it is flushed out for four days along with another drug to limit its effect. Unfortunately Hannah got another infection within hours of the IV being started that has resulted in her kidneys not passing the chemo out quickly enough. It may be there is long term damage but at the very least, for now we are remaining in hospital in Christchurch with no home return date. The chemo was supposed to flush out last Sunday but looks set to remain (at reducing levels) till the end of the week. The first infection that caused the problem is now gone but another has appeared. So the plan is to continue flushing the chemo out then take stock of where the infections are at, the side effects of the longer than intended exposure to chemo and how Hannah's kidneys are. Then we'll know when we can go home and how her treatment will be altered which hopefully will not effect the effectiveness of it all.
All in all a bit scary and frustrating to not be with the children but Hannah is being a trooper and the twins are coping well too thanks to their family, friends and kindy teachers. Hopefully we will be together in the New Year for a belated Christmas and the start of school for the twins who have now turned five.
Thank you all
Barbara
