Help Sean’s prolonged recovery after suffering a horrific car accident on New Year’s Eve.
Nationwide
Our nephew Sean, a typical happy 19 year old boy is fighting the biggest challenge of his life. Sean was the innocent victim of a horrific car accident in Waipu, Northland on New Year’s Eve, 31 December 2016.
Sean was first treated at Whangarei Hospital, but due to the seriousness of his injuries and lack of expert clinicians, he was later flown to Middlemore Hospital in Auckland and underwent four lifesaving surgery procedures. This has resulted in complex clinical, physical and emotional management.
Due to Sean’s extensive injuries he is expected to have a prolonged recovery period and one known “final” surgical procedure where it will take months before he is able to regain his independence. He is however, still clinically unwell so it will be some time before his physical rehabilitation can commence. In the meantime Sean and his mother Rose remain in Auckland, Middlemore Hospital.
Christmas and New Years are meant to be enjoyable times spent with whanau. For our dear friend, a hardworking dedicated mother, that has not always been the case. In 1991 she lost her partner in a fatal car accident when they were travelling north for Christmas. Fast forward to Mothers Day 2013 her mother was tragically taken in a car accident while travelling back from a graduation. Now Rose and Sean face the unfortunate, emotional and lengthy journey with his own rehabilitation. Rose has put her employment on hold and relocated to Auckland to be with Sean.
Although we are blessed and grateful Sean is still with us, we are mindful of the extra financial responsibilities that will continue throughout his recovery and rehabilitation. Through this Givealittle page you can help us lessen the load for our most deserving friend and nephew.
We're involved because we love our beautiful friend and "Blista" Rose Thomas (nee Pickering) and our darling nephew Seanny Boy.
Funds raised will be used to financially support Rose and Sean throughout the entirety of his recovery and rehabilitation.
Clinicians have confirmed a prolonged recovery period for Sean.
