Dave is a 71 year old man living in Nelson. With doctors telling him he has 5 years to live, 5 years ago, his life is a ticking time bomb.
Nationwide
David Palmer was born into foster care and spent many years at Ngawatu (psychiatric hospital) before being put back out into the Community. He suffered epilepsy as a child and, at age 17, was diagnosed with learning difficulties indicating his IQ was only that of a 5 year old.
Not deterred, David was employed at Hunter Timbers for many years and participated in Special Olympics events over many years. His love of sport includes cricket, netball, football and many locals will know him through his scoring at Stoke Nayland Cricket and support of other sporting codes including football, Makos, indoor cricket, netball and much much more...
Dave's health has suffered over the years and he suffers with the conditions due to his spleen being removed and the diagnosis of a heart condition leaving him with merely years to live. Getting around is very difficult, especially now that his second hand mobile scooter has seen it's last days. Dave lives in a group home with a carer, his income is limited to day-to-day expenses only; which means he cannot afford to fulfil his lifelong dreams, and the fixing of his "car".
I am involved because ever since my birth, my mother, Vicky, took it upon herself to help him by making his life easier. This was done by being a friend, helping him with his finances and funding his sport. Throughout the years he has become an add on to our family and we want to make sure he dies with the fulfilment of his dreams and help him as much as we can. The proceeds of this givealittle page will be debited into Dave's account that will be used for the fixing of his mobility scooter, and fund his trip to Auckland where he will visit the sky tower, kelly tarltons, and rainbows end. Thank you for your interest and donations 😊
Dave wants to continue to support the sports he loves and needs a new mobile scooter. An application to the Lotto commission has this on hold with an outcome expected in September, but time may not be on his side. Dave's bucket list includes: a trip to Auckland on the train from Wellington because he's done every other train trip, and a holiday in Auckland where he can go to the movies and take a trip to the sky tower. We also plan on fixing his scooter which has been estimated to cost $1300.
