Help Emma Hear

  • A bit more info

      5 November 2013

Hi everyone, Here's a bit more info, because it's hard to fit everything in in 60 words or less. We don't know what caused my hearing loss (possibly viral meningitis when I was 18, possibly hereditary - thanks mum), but it's not getting any better, and seems to be getting worse quite quickly. Having a hearing loss isn't fun. For anyone. You feel like a dick when you have to ask people to repeat things, then can't hear them anyway, or when you give a clearly wrong answer to a question. People around you get frustrated when you can't hear them because they aren't looking right at you, or when they think you're ignoring them. You start avoiding catching up with groups because most of the time you have no idea what anyone is saying. And you don't really want to tell anyone because you're 26, and 26 year olds who are fit and healthy should be able to hear right? Anyway, getting a pair of hearing aids would help hugely. It wouldn't make my hearing ""normal"" but it would mean that I could enjoy some of the simple things again. Thanks so much xx
