  • Gavin Update!

Hi there, sorry that it’s been a while since we’ve updated you all! Things have been crazy busy around here..

To update you all on how Gavin is doing.. he is doing great! He was due to get his feeding tube out last Wednesday as he had started eating on his own, but last Tuesday he vomited the other end of the feeding tube up so had to have it out early on the Tuesday. As soon as he had the tube out he was back to being his normal cuddly self (if not even more cuddly and needy than he was before). He’s got all his personality back again and he’s full of life! He’s coping so well with being locked in a room, spending most of his time eating and sleeping and he’s even started to fully clean himself too!

As for Gavin’s eye, he still has his right eye partly shut but it’s starting to show positive signs of opening. For the first few weeks there was no sign of it doing anything and even at his two week check up the vet himself couldn’t even pry it open to have a look. But in the last week or so it has started opening from the corner and every couple of days it’s opening more and more. We are still unsure of what his eye will be like when it is fully open but it is still really positive as it shows that the swelling is going down in his face.

He is able to shut his mouth but with all the gunk stuck in his nose he is currently a mouth breather. He spends eighty percent of his day with his tongue sticking out, dribbling and heavy breathing (or snoring). He has started to meow again, as when he had his tube in he was a very quiet cat.

This will be the part of my update where I start to get emotional.. I want to say a big big thank you and send out huge hugs to all of you who have donated and sent lovely words. You have made this so much easier on all of our family and with your help we have been able to give Gavin the best possible care. We are so lucky to still have Gavin as a part of our family as we know things could have had a very different outcome and we are forever grateful for your love and generosity. Gavin is now back to living a happy healthy life and i’m sure if he could thank you, he’d give you all head butts and smooches xx

The give a little page is due to close on the 30th of April, I have set a reminder on my phone to do a final update before the page closes, so will speak to you all then! The photo I have used for this update is of my current view while I try (and fail) to type this up for you. Can’t even use my laptop without being interrupted, but right now I wouldn’t have it any other way :) Goodnight all xx

  • Update on Gavin

Hi all, sorry it's been a while since the last update. We have been so busy that I haven't had time!

Gavin is doing really well, we're seeing slight improvements in him everyday. He still hasn't opened his second eye but we have hope that he will when the swelling goes down.

Unfortunately he has got very bad diarrhoea at the moment due to the sloppy food, medication and stress. We tried taking his pain medication out of his diet (as advised by the vet) because it has a side effect of diarrhoea but it didn't change anything. It also means he has to stay in his crate a bit more (much to his disgust) as he isn't able to always make it to his litter tray.

He's doing really well with his feeding tube, at first it was a bit scary but we've got the hang of it! He's still being fed every 6 hours (9am, 3pm, 9pm & 3am). Of course, he's always very wide awake and cuddly at 3am!

Overall he's really happy to be home with us. Although he isn't feeling 100% it hasn't stopped him being his cuddly smoochy self. Despite having major trauma and surgery to his face, he still head butts us for forehead kisses.

  • He's home!

Just updating to let you know two days after his surgery our boy is home!! He's doing so well and the vets are all so happy with his progress. He's such a little trooper.

He still has his feeding tube for another two weeks as they need his mouth to heal properly before he can try eating again, it's a bit tedious but we're slowly getting the hang of it. He gets fed every six hours and he sits still with no complaints. After feeding he gets a full belly and goes straight back to sleep. Gavin will need to be confined in a cage/small room for five weeks but he's loving his big comfy bed in his crate so he's not fussed (at this stage). We let him out sometimes during the day in the bedroom and he curls up and has a snooze on the bed.

Overall we are so so happy to have him home and part of the family again, we've all missed him so much.

Unfortunately the bill ended up a lot more than expected.. the final bill came to $9347.87 due to the extra plate required, lengthly surgery and the long stay. I can't change the goal, but will leave it as an open goal as we aren't expecting the total. A huge thank you to everyone who's donated, shared the link, sent kind words & offered support xx

Just a quick update to say that Gavin has had his surgery and it went well! They ended up having to use three plates instead of two but he's doing good. The vet said he couldn't line his bite up perfectly but he tried his best and that's all we can ask for ❤️ I've been to see him and gave him a quick pat and a kiss, he's very sleepy so will go back tomorrow for a cuddle. Thank you all so much, he's one very loved cat! xxx

Hi all, wanting to update you on how Gavin is doing but first of all a huge thank you! We are all very overwhelmed and speechless!! ❤️

We have been to give Gavin a cuddle this morning and wish him good luck for today. He is still very smoochy and as always very happy to see us. He has quite the fan club at the vet he's staying at, he's being spoilt with all the cuddles they're giving him. We got to speak to the vet about his CT scan which was done a couple of days ago and we got to view it. My poor boy is very broken :( The vet is aiming to operate on him this afternoon and put two plates in to help everything move back to where it should be and heal. Long road to recovery ahead of us but he's being such a little fighter and we can't wait to have him home ❤️ Please send positive thoughts and prayers our way xx

To everyone that has donated money no matter how big or small, sending out the biggest hugs to you all. Our family is feeling incredibly overwhelmed right now and so thankful.

To update you all on Gavin, his new feeding tube has been put in and the CT scan has been done. He is looking a lot more relaxed and able to lay his head down and get the rest he needs. The vets at ARC are taking such good care of him and giving him lots of cuddles. We are due to meet with the vet early this week to discuss where to from here with his surgery now that the CT scan has given us a better picture. Attached is a photo from this morning of our boy sleeping xx
