George's Healing Journey

  • George’s Update: Like a Superdog — But Knowing His Limits 🐾

      2 April 2026
    Main image

George continues to do really well and is looking better than ever — strong, happy, and enjoying life again. He has now reached his target weight of 31.65 kg and is maintaining around 32 kg, which has made a real difference to his mobility and wellbeing.

He’s also had some new experiences, including his first bus trip, which he handled beautifully. In many ways, he’s becoming a real beacon of recovery.

Recently, we made our way to a community meeting, with George and his mum running alongside my cycle. This worked well, with George taking turns riding in the cycle wagon and running, which he clearly loved.

At the same time, it showed that longer distances can still push his limits, especially in hot or cold weather. There’s also the need for constant vigilance with traffic, particularly cars coming out of driveways.

While cycling and public transport are helpful, they’re not always practical on their own. Having flexibility helps ensure George can stay active in the community without placing unnecessary strain on his recovery.

    Thank you again, George's

Angel Whanau - for your continued support — it truly makes a difference.

  • Finding a New Rhythm 🐾

      27 February 2026
    Main image

The past couple of weeks have been eventful. Between dealing with cat fleas (true ninja commandos — barely visible yet highly effective!) and being overtired, I made a mistake that’s unfortunately resulted in the loss of my car. It’s been a shock, but we’re adapting and taking things one step at a time.

The important news is that George is looking better than ever. He’s running strongly and adjusting beautifully to his specialised raw diet, which continues to support his recovery and overall health.

We’ve found a new rhythm using the cycle wagon, with Gemma happily riding like a proper sheepdog until she’s “needed,” while George stretches his legs. It’s been inspiring to watch.

We’ve also recently connected with a wonderful dog lover who has taken a genuine interest in George’s story and his involvement in the community.

Thank you to everyone who has donated — especially Oceania, whose generosity in late January (which I only discovered recently) was a real boost during a difficult couple of weeks.

    With gratitude,

    Alex & George 🐾

  • George's Fundraiser - Ongoing Care & Community Awareness

      5 January 2026

I have reopened George’s fundraiser to support his ongoing care, including his specialised raw diet and any future veterinary needs as he continues to heal.

There’s no pressure to donate — but any contributions are gratefully received and help support George’s wellbeing, while also spreading awareness about healing dogs from traumatic situations and giving them the lives they deserve.

If you’d like to stay in touch with George’s journey and community updates, you’re warmly welcome to join the Facebook page HelpGeorgeHeal.

We’ll be renaming the page “George’s Healing Journey” to reflect a broader message — that healing is possible not just for George, but for other dogs and the people who love them too.

with love and gratitude from George, his mum and Alex

  • Oops! The Video Went Walkies(again!) — Reposting With a Photo Instead

    Kia ora everyone,

I wanted to share an exciting development.

As many of you know, Help George Heal began with the goal of helping George recover and return to a joyful life. Thanks to your generosity, he is now thriving — healthy, happy, and full of energy. If you haven’t already, please visit the Facebook page HelpGeorgeHeal to see videos of him racing along with his mother at Mission Bay and Panmure Basin!

Now that George has received so much care and healing, our family has been reflecting on what comes next. We feel called to turn that same light outward.

We hope to evolve Help George Heal into a longer-term charitable initiative. The idea is for George to become a symbol and ambassador for recovery, new beginnings, hope, and kindness in the community.

    Our wider focus will include:

    • Helping other dogs and animals in need

    • Encouraging people who would benefit from support and connection

    • Supporting projects that build joy, resilience, and compassion

Your generosity has already helped George immensely; now we hope his story can inspire and support others too.

Thank you for believing in George, and in us.

Stay tuned — the journey continues.

    With gratitude,

    George & family

  • George's Happy Recovery Walk!

      25 October 2025

George is trotting along beautifully! 🐾

He’s on a very strict diet to shed a few kilos — although he gives me a sad face when he wants more, and he does get tired quicker - Ive discovered , he’s perfectly content crunching on cow hooves (they last way longer than regular treats!) and in he gets to enjoy a chew toy stuffed with the required amount of meat.

Thank you so much to everyone who’s supported his healing journey — you’ve made such a difference! ❤️

✨ When the Givealittle fundraiser wraps up, I’ll be posting a special thankyou offer over on George’s Facebook page — so make sure you pop over and follow us there!

  • George is doing well!

      11 October 2025

From his first wagon ride to first faltering steps with his repaired leg George is doing better each day He doesn’t like the rigorous diet but. I am hoping with more exercise each day he can be fed a bit more, while still keeping his weight down . Seeing the vet tomorrow. He is not having the more expensive anti inflammatory injections but safer and more affordable ones.

Because he is doing well I may be closing this fundraiser early. His Facebook page will still be open and wlll keep in touch from there. Do join up if you’d like to get any special updates if you haven’t already . And I’ll be doing a final post on here (the givealittle page) before closing it down .

  • George begins the Home Run for His Recovery!

      21 September 2025

Hi G.G.A ! (George's Guardian Agnels, every one of you!) There have been a couple of deaths for me recently - my sister passed away peacefully last week and my Iphone has just died due to water damage. I'll be posting some photo updates of George's post op recovery shortly. BUT George is alive and doing WELL after his surgery. He has a very comfy castle (cage) on wheels.

I'll be contacting the admin of Givealittle to modify the title to reflect his stage of recovery, but as mentioned, I'm keeping the fundraiser open for anyone who wants to help with post op costs. It is, however a tremendous relief that he got the surgical work done now - all going well he will be starting to be a bit more mobile by summer! Stay tuned for more updates - one about the BBC Interview about the good work good King George has done in the community in the past - and another about a studio portrait offer for those who have donated! Speak soon! The pic is of George at the Vet clinic just before his op.

  • George’s Journey to Health Continues Tomorrow! 🐶💛 SURGERY FOR GEORGE!

      18 September 2025

Thanks to everyone’s love and support, George is going in for surgery! 🙏

He’ll be home recovering for six weeks with cozy bedding and care items. The fundraiser will remain open until November to help cover ongoing needs like pain relief and absorbent pads. But your wonderful support and a guardian angel stepping in has allowed the basic surgery cost to be met. Both George and I are excited with this dream coming true!

We lost my sister last week, but her spirit is with us—and especially with George and his mum Gemma. Life goes on and George is a wonderful example of that!

  • ✨ Update! Closing date extended ✨

      23 August 2025
    Main image

    Hi everyone,

A quick note to let you know I’ve extended the fundraiser closing date to November 23, 2025. Why? Because I have absolute faith that, with the amazing energy and generosity already shown, we can reach the $5,000 goal for George’s surgery and aftercare. Extending the date gives us the time and space needed to get there. 💛

I can’t thank you enough for the kindness you’ve already poured in—it’s been heart-warming to witness such support from wonderful souls near and far.

🌟 Something special coming up! 🌟

As a heartfelt thank-you, I’ll soon be announcing a special offer: everyone who has donated $100 or more will be gifted a complimentary studio photo session with me. 📸✨ Stay tuned for more details—this is my way of giving back to those who’ve given so generously.

    With deep gratitude,

Alex , George and his mother Gemma 🐾💛

Halfway There! George Says Thank You! 🐾💛

George is still loving his outings — tail wagging, ears perked, grinning from ear to ear. But… it’s not all smooth cruising. His sore leg means he needs massage breaks every few minutes just to keep up with his mum. Still, he doesn’t complain. Classic George.

    The amazing news?

🎉 We’ve reached halfway toward the basic cost of his surgery! 🎉

THANK YOU to everyone who’s donated, shared, or cheered him on. Every kind word, every dollar — it really matters. It’s helping this sweet, strong boy take steps toward a more comfortable life.

There’s still a way to go — but momentum is building. And guess what?

👀 George may be getting a bit of global attention soon…

We’ll keep you posted! Let’s just say the world might be about to meet the most charming Staffie-Huntaway cross on wheels.

In the meantime, George is rolling through winter in his Georgemobile, winning hearts wherever he goes. And every donation helps us get closer to surgery — and continued pain relief to keep him feeling good in the meantime.

Keep sharing, keep caring, and help us cross the finish line!

You’re not just helping George walk better — you’re giving him the chance to keep spreading joy the way only he can.

With big thanks and tail wags,

George (and his very grateful human) 🐶❤️

  • Moving Forward Again , Thanks To You!

A Pause on the Path – But Still Moving Forward 💛

This photo feels symbolic of George’s journey.

He walks faithfully beside his mum, Gemma — but then suddenly, he freezes. She wants to keep going, but George can’t always move the way he wants to. It’s a quiet reminder that his injury still holds him back. And on cold winter nights, his usual cheerful spirit fades a little.

But thanks to a second wind of kind donations and support, we’re gaining momentum again. The generosity and encouragement of people like you are helping George take real steps toward healing.

We’re moving ahead — and we’re not giving up. 🐾

Thank you for walking this path with us!

  • HELP GEORGE HEAL! George Needs Surgery

      18 June 2025
    Main image

    Update: George’s Journey Continues 💛

We’ve updated George’s fundraising goal to $5000 — the surgery quote is $3000, with the remainder to help cover the cost of Beransa (anti-inflammatory injections).

Although two vets have confirmed George needs ACL (ligament) surgery, George doesn’t seem to agree! Even with a wagon ready for him, he often chooses to hop beside his mother. While this isn’t ideal long-term, he doesn’t appear to be in pain when mobile and is still enjoying outings — including 6am rides in his Georgemobile!

After speaking with a vet nurse who knows him well, it’s possible that life could be manageable either way — with or without surgery. Of course, the surgery would give him more stability and comfort, but George continues to spread joy and love wherever he goes.

This campaign remains open in the hope we can raise enough for his leg repair. But if that doesn’t happen, George will still live a happy, love-filled life. With so much kindness shown his healing may be as much due to spiritual as well as physical support!

At this point, it’s in the balance. Some might say, it’s in God’s hands. 🙏

We’ll be sharing more of George’s community work in the coming days — from protests and school visits to comforting other life-chained dogs — and working on a TikTok video to help spread his story.

Thank you for being part of George’s journey — every share, kind word, and donation makes a difference. 🐾

  • 🌟 George's Healing Journey – Small Steps, Big Heart 🌟

      13 June 2025

George is still his cheerful, loving self — riding in his Georgemobile at 6am tomorrow with his mum, and enjoying short walks. But while monthly anti-inflammatory injections help, the ACL (ligament) surgery will give him a far better, pain-free life.

Even $3000 feels daunting, but the kindness of strangers and new friends continues to inspire. 💛

Photos of George’s work in the community — from protests and school visits to comforting other life-chained dogs — will be added in the next few days. He’s made a difference, and now he needs our help.

We’ve reached out to a dog charity he’s supported in the past — fingers crossed they’ll share his story soon! And next up: a TikTok video to help George's journey reach more hearts.

Please keep sharing. Every bit helps.

Thank you for being part of George's healing!

  • 🌟 The Path Forward is Clearing... 🌟Good News, but your support is still needed!

      27 April 2025

    🐾 George’s Update! 🐾

First, a quick note: I know I promised to share a picture of George’s leg sooner, and I appreciate your patience as I’ve worked through a few unexpected delays. The good news is, we’ve had some progress, and here’s where we are now... Thanks to one amazing donor, George visited a vet for a second opinion on his leg wound — and great news! It’s healing nicely, so no surgery needed for that! 🙌

Now, the focus is on raising funds for his ligament repair surgery, which can be done at a more affordable price by the same surgeon who did his right leg. The longer we wait, though, the higher the risk of arthritis and pain, making the situation more complicated for George. 😔

George is always smiling around people — his positive energy is contagious! But as winter sets in and the day winds down, he feels the pain more acutely and requires anti-inflammatory injections (like Bernasa) to help him manage. These injections are part of the funds we’re raising, alongside the surgery, to keep him comfortable while we work toward getting him the care he needs.

We’re almost 1/8 of the way there! Please share the message, spread the word, and help us raise the funds for George’s urgent surgery and ongoing care. 🐶❤️

  • Good News!

      27 March 2025
    Main image

A second opinion from another vet is that the wound may not be a Fistula or non healing wound and may not need exploratory surgery

So, the goal of getting George’s ligament repaired is the main focus . And it may be possible to get a more affordable repair done using the same method as his other leg , 5 years ago.

Thanks to all the love, interest and good energy and the help of a friend being with George while I took a break for a swim , we are about 1/5th of the way towards getting his ligament repaired done! Look out for his new signs which will be attached to his Georgemobile and if anyone would like to be part of a stand fundraising at Mission Bay or other places , let me know on the Facebook page HELP GEORGE HEAL. Thanks! Alex

      16 March 2025

George is happy to be with his mother and to be out and about. But even after a short walk he is hitting. The anti-inflammatoriy injections and medication help but this is only a temporary (and expensive) strategy. What he needs is surgery to A. clean out the non-healing wound and B. Repair his ripped Cruciate Ligament. He has come a long way since being a life-chained dog on a trucking yard but for this challenge he needs your help
