Helping Rai Valley residents after losing home in flooding

  • THANK YOU! So much

      11 September 2022

A big and heartfelt thank you to every single person who has left kind words and a donation for nana and Donald. No matter how big or small, your support is deeply appreciated and will never be forgotten. You have made an hugely positive impact in their lives during a time that has been heartbreaking and stressful, and Nana, Donald and the whole family want to say thank you again.

More kindness has followed with donated goods from all around the community as well as a new rental on the horizon to move into and begin the healing and recovery process from the flooding event. The Givealittle money will help them with this journey and get them back on their feet.

Thank you all so much again, your support and encouragement means the world!

  • The road to recovery

The clearing of the slip and house has begun with the road now mostly open for residents and machinery to get through. The family has been able to access the house and scavenge a few items items like clothing and bedding that can be commercially cleaned, but time in the mud and water has largely left everything else beyond repair.

We've been lucky to have a lot of images sent through of the clean up, pictured is Nana's car which is actually halfway up a tree, sitting on mud. The extreme force of nature is both amazing and terrifying, we can't even imagine the thought of anyone being in the house or the cars are the time.

Thank you all for your donations and kind words, we really appreciate your messages

  • Update

A small update on the Rai Valley home, footage and imagery from neighbor Justin (we so very much appreciate the updates!) shows just how massive the slip was and how lucky Nana and Donald were to get out in the middle of the night 🙏🏻

The house will need to be demolished in order to clear the road in order to allow residents out and emergency vehicles and crews through to begin clearing more of the damage. As far as I know nothing so far can be salvaged from the interior and it's been tough to get in with the power lines, but maybe just maybe some sentimental items can be rescued 🤞🏻

Thank you everyone for your kind donations and words of support, we deeply appreciate it 🧡

Video via Marlborough District Council of the slip and how large an area it has covered. So grateful for Nana and Donald's resilience, that would have been tough to cross in the middle of the night
