With your support my friend Jesse, can become a father through surrogacy.

Auckland

Kia ora, my name is Mel and I am hoping you can help my friend Jesse. Jesse is a twenty-seven-year-old male, and he would like to become a Dad. Can you help him reach his dream?

Jesse has an autosomal dominant genetic condition called Neurofibromatosis Type One. Jesse also has hypogonadotropic hypogonadism and hyperprolactinemia.

As the result of having medical intervention at the age of eight to eleven and chemotherapy for a brain tumour at the age of sixteen. When Jesse was eight, he had three years of hormone treatment to stop him from going through puberty early. Again, in 2016 he had a chemotherapy treatment for a brain tumour. As a result of all the treatment, Jesse has no sex drive as his hormones are lower than they should be. As a result of this, Jesse is unable to be in a relationship as he has been left Asexual.

He is now starting the process of government-funded IVF treatment to create a healthy embryo free from his medical condition. He currently has an egg donor and is still seeking a surrogate.

Before, Jesse starts the Ethics Committee on Assisted Reproductive Technology ECART) approval process he needs to get approved through Child Youth and Family to adopt his own child. This will cost upwards of $7000 and I am wanting to help him get the money, so he can start this process.

Jesse is in his final year of his Bachelor of Teaching Degree and I believe he will make an excellent father and I want to see him reach his goal. He knows it will be a long process, but I know he has the determination to get there.

Here is the current law which outlines the reasons why needs to adopt his child.

4.35 The commissioning father will only be the child’s father in law if the surrogate mother is single and his sperm is used. If the surrogate mother is married or in a de facto relationship, her husband or partner will either be presumed or deemed to be the child’s parent, providing he knew of and consented to the procedure.

4.36 Where the surrogate’s husband is deemed to be the child’s parent, the commissioning father will have to adopt the child in order to secure parental status, even if he is the child’s genetic father.
