Help Miss Adelaide

  • MRI Results are back... and it's not what we were hoping for !

      8 August 2014

Unfortunately the results from Adelaide's MRI weren't what we were hoping for. Surgery is not an option right now as they would have to remove part of her left atrium which is too risky. So now she will have to try chemotherapy in an attempt to reduce the tumour and make surgery possible. Andrew and Laurel have to weigh up if they want her to have medium or high dose chemo and the associated risks. This feels like one of the lowest points we've been at and it's very distressing. They try and try to be positive but it feels like everything they get is far from it. They just want beautiful Adelaide to be healthy and happy and not having to fight this hideous, cruel fight. Keep praying everyone! xoxo

  • Update on Miss Adeliade

      18 July 2014

Our gorgeous Miss Adelaide has been in Christchurch this week for PET and CT Scan's. The news isn't what we were hoping for ...There is quite a bit of residual disease around her heart. Now we wait on an MRI of her heart to see if they can operate which we will be praying they can. Any surgery will be at Starship and followed up with chemo. So we still have a battle ahead and thank everyone for keeping her in your thoughts, Laurel and Andrew appreciate the support. xxx

  • Results are back

      15 May 2014

Adelaide has an incredibly rare inflammatory tumour. It's a low grade cancer so there's no huge rush for treatment and they will wait for 3 months then she'll have more scans before they decide what to do next. Unfortunately only a small amount of these tumours respond to chemo and hers isn't one that will. So if what they had to leave behind is growing again they will have to remove her entire lung. Worst case is that it's not able to be removed but they don't expect that to be the case. Best case is the part they left behind just disappears which has happened before in cases like hers. So for now another big wait until we know more but they are just happy to be home together for 3 months.

  • Our brave, courageous Miss Adelaide ....

      29 April 2014

Yesterday Laurel and Andrew were told the tumour hadn't changed based on an xray and ultrasound. Because it's still solid they said it's possible that it is cancerous but we are still hopeful it's benign. If it's malignant they will take as much as they can then treat her with chemo and once it's shrunk operate again. If it's benign they will operate as many times as needed till they've got it all out. Surgery tomorrow will be up to 5 hours and depending on how that goes she will be kept under full sedation so that she's not in any pain following surgery and depending on how it's going will be kept under for a few days. And then today, SURGERY DAY Brave wee Adelaide has come through 5 hours in theater. Two thirds of her right lung has been removed along with a cricket ball sized tumour. Now we need her to recover from surgery. Up to two weeks till biopsy back on tumour. There is still lots that these guys need to go through and the support from you guys has been fantastic to help with the costs associated with living away from home, flights, rental car, phone bills and motel. Everyone who has donated, THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU SO MUCH! I have been blown away by the generosity of Kiwi's, it's been bloody brilliant. Hang in there Team Adelaide, it's not over yet! xoxo All the best Team Adelaide! Love you all so very much!!

  • 2 weeks @ home, 1 week to go!!

      22 April 2014

Well Miss Adelaide has been home for 2 weeks being fattened up, but unfortunately due to sickness, she's been through 7 feeding tubes and just hasn't put on any weight !! She did manage to have a great day at Natureland recently, and is still managing to smile through it all! Tuesday 29th April will be the day that any parent dreads, handing your precious child to capable surgeons and putting every ounce of faith in their abilities to return your child in a better state than they are currently in! Laurel, Andrew, Ava, Elliot and Adelaide will be in all of our thoughts until we hear news, I know my mind will certainly be elsewhere that day! Please all say a prayer for Adelaide, she's a fighter to have got through what she has done so far, but we're not at the finish line just yet!! xoxoxo
