Rambo's one year old, but she's had a tough life on the streets of Rio. She had three dead babies in her tum and needed emergency surgery.
Wellington
I met this beautiful stray at a petrol station carpark. Never one to turn down patting a cat, she and I fell in love within about 15 seconds. My plan was to take her to my house for the night, then find her a new home - because look at her!
When I took her to the vet the following day to check for a microchip, I got a double whammy of bed news: no microchip, and she was pregnant - but the three kitten foetuses had died.
This tiny, smoochy beast needed emergency surgery, to remove her uterus and ovaries, followed by a three-day stay at the vet. It cost NZ$1000 upfront, and by the time she arrived home, after an extra day in care due to a wee infection, it was up to $1300. Thankfully, getting her stitches out is free!
There really was no alternative to helping Rambo out: in Rio, unwanted cats get dumped in parks, and left to start their own communities.
Now, I plan to give Rambo the best possible home: with me. It looks like it'll be a difficult and expensive journey ahead to get her back to New Zealand, but that's a thought for down the track.
Right now, she just needs to focus on getting better. Any help you're able to give would be greatly appreciated.
I'm Rambo's number one human.
