The Thomson Family - Tim's Road to Recovery

  • Update on Tims Recovery

      17 September 2016

I have been in to see how Tim is getting along. He is doing well, but he is finding it very difficult coping with the frustration of not being able to remember things.

He has pictures up on his wall in hospital to remind him of his family and a poster telling him who he is and why he is in hospital.

This has been a very hard thing for Tim to cope with but with his loving wife and his parents by his side he is finding the strength to continue fighting this battle.

Over the next couple of weeks his wife Emma is making the trip down to Christchurch to pack up their home and make the move back up to Auckland. This has been an extremely difficult time for her as she has left her job to be up here to support her husband, with no stable income things are becoming increasingly stressful and concerns of everyday costs like food, petrol and hospital parking are growing.

The good news is that on Monday he is being transferred to the ABI Rehabilitation Center in Ranui, Auckland, they are the top in NZ who specialise in the rehabilitation of Traumatic Brain Injurys where he will get the best possible care.

Thank you all for keeping positive and just being there for the Thomsons.

Tim has made another giant leap to recovery today.

With the unconditional love and support from his family who have been by his side every day, from all his friends and the support from others, Tim is defying the odds with helping hands from the dedicated nurses at Auckland Hospital he stood up for the first time and started walking.

      Taken from Psalm 37

23 The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way.

24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.

      Well done Tim X

    Great news!!

Tim has made huge progress today, it's the first day he has really woken up and he's talking a lot and asking about everyone.

He's still very confused due to the brain injury but is slowly coming back to reality more and more everyday.

He knew who we were at times, then asked who we were. He said his wife Emma looks hot!!!

He even tried walking to the bathroom with a little help from his brother Shane and his father Wayne. He had a few spoons of yogurt too ??

He was doing great for about 2 hours then he started getting very agitated again. But it's a great start to his recovery onwards and upwards.

Thank you everyone, Tim is very overwhelmed and appreciative of all the support and love.

Just wanting to post an update about Tim. He is slowly getting better, he is still very agitated and needs lots of rest. He isn't ready for visitors yet but hopefully will be transferred to a brain injury rehab centre in Ranui, Auckland in the next few weeks, once he is there he can start to see people and will be more comfortable. He is doing well but there is still a long way to go. Thank you everyone for the support and donations to the Give a Little page.

    Thank you all again.
