14 days out from our big 130km journey! 16km this morning and the most beautiful views here in Kirikiriroa. Tamanuiterā really done did it! 😍🌞 Getting the rest of our training in over the next week before we taper off… Eeeeek!!
Kia ora e te iwi!! Nau mai ki tō māua nei whārangi “Highway 3 to Albuquerque”. You’re probably wondering what this page and kaupapa is all about 👀…
We have each individually been accepted to present at the INIKHD Conference “Reclaiming Indigenous Ecologies of Love” held in Albuquerque New Mexico in late April of this year. Kayla is presenting on her Master’s work and Jazzy her PhD work. We wanted a fundraiser that would bring both of our kaupapa, whakapapa and journeys together. We didn’t want to do anything too hard for the fundraiser so we decided to do something absolutely ridiculous instead. A hīkoi from Kayla’s marae Waiokura in South Taranaki to Jazzy’s marae Tini Waitara in Turakina would bring together the stories of our tūpuna and reflect what we are both trying to achieve in our communities by walking and moving into a future of thrivance for our people.
We have created this page as a way to raise funds through our Give a Little Page which is linked in our bio but we also wanted to use this as an educational platform and to bring you all along on the journey. We will have so many learnings that we want to share with you all and we wouldn’t be able to do this without you guys! We are so grateful for the support already and it has only been a couple of days! ❤️
Keep your eyes peeled for our livestream Q+A later this week and ask your pātai in the question box on our story!
