Holy Trinity Silverdale Restoration Project

$2,250 of $105,000 goal
Given by 10 generous donors in one year

Holy Trinity Silverdale Restoration Project has raised $66,669.80 as at 31st May and we are continuing to reach out to the Community.

Silverdale, Auckland

Holy Trinity Church, a cherished Heritage New Zealand Pouhere Taonga Category 2 Historic Place, stands as a testament to our local community's history. Constructed in 1885, this beautiful Selwyn-style church, crafted by the community from locally milled pit-sawn Kauri, has been a place of worship for over 138 years. In 2005, it was moved from its original site by the Rodney District Council to make way for an extension of Silverdale Street. It is currently located beside the cemetery, where it continues to serve as an iconic cornerstone of our community.

However, our beloved Holy Trinity Church faces critical challenges. The eastern side requires repiling due to issues from the 2005 relocation. Also, the wooden Kauri structure urgently requires substantial restoration, including window frame replacement, exterior cladding replacement, addressing water penetration issues, and drainage improvements. The estimated cost is $300,000. Adding to the cost of repairs is the fact that the church has a Heritage New Zealand Category 2 listing and has protection as a Category B historic building under the Auckland Unitary Plan.

We are launching a fundraising campaign. We are calling upon our community to rally with us and contribute to the restoration of this iconic Heritage Church in the heart of Silverdale. We need your support to reach our goal.

Holy Trinity Silverdale Restoration Project  6 December 2024

A huge thank you to the donors who have supported this ongoing fundraising venture for the restoration of this historic church. To date we have raised $26,000 and have submitted applications to two Community Trusts. A positive response from these Trusts will provide seed funding to enable us to apply for a larger donation from one further Historic Trust. Fundraising will continue through 2025 with the hope that the restoration will commence later in the year.
