Hope and Healing for Kim McKelvey: Fighting Myeloma Cancer Together

In June 2026, my life changed in an instant when I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma.

Treatment began immediately and has been intense. To stabilise my body and protect my bones, I have undergone two major surgeries to place titanium rods in both of my femur bones, along with rods, struts and prophylactic nails in my right arm and shoulder.

Recovering from such extensive surgery while starting cancer treatment has been physically exhausting and emotionally overwhelming. There is still a long road ahead, including three weeks of intensive chemotherapy, a stem cell transplant and a significant recovery period.

Being unable to work during this time will put a huge financial strain on our household. Alongside our usual day-to-day living costs, there are also the additional expenses that come with treatment, including parking, travel, meals and other unexpected costs.

Any money raised will go towards helping with these additional treatment costs, our everyday living expenses and supporting me through my recovery. I may be off work for 3-6 months. Having some of this financial pressure lifted would mean I can focus on what matters most right now — getting through treatment, recovering and getting back to my family.
