Vandals attacked the Matakana War Memorial - We need your help!
Matakana, Auckland
Over the past 25 years we have witnessed a staggering increase in vandal attacks of the Matakana War Memorial. This year a few days after our Anzac Day Service the War Memorial was attacked the head of King George was broken off and thrown to the ground, sustaining damage. Then several days after that attack the World War One Soldiers biography panels where smashed. In total since our last ANZAC day service our War Memorial has been vandalized 4 times.
This war memorial is managed and maintained by a small group of volunteers relying of public donations to present Anzac Day services, information panels and educational activities. Our volunteers work all year around to ensure the War Memorial honours the 20 young men from the area who gave their lives during World War One and Two.
After these recent attacks the decision has been made that technology must be applied to deter and capture these events.
You can help to protect this War Memorial, make a donation today.
For this we need funds, after receiving 3 estimates and plans from professionals in the security business an estimated cost for this work would be $4533.90

THANK YOU to all for your generosity and kind words. We have reached our goal and Phase one of the updated Security system has been installed. Phase two next week. After our "Give A Litte" page closed, we received a generous donation from one individual, enough to reach our goal. THANK YOU for helping us protect our 102 years old, Heritage listed War Memorial. Visit our FACEBOOK page for updates and news.
Jane, thank you so much for the donation. Phase one of the security update has been completed. Phase two depends on our fundraising efforts. We are nearly there. Thank You.
Lesley, thank you for your donation - every dollar counts. The more we have the better the security system and the more chance of detering and charging offenders. Thank You.
Sandra, thank you for the donation - we have a way to go, but the work on the updated security system has started.
Thank you Brad, I really appreciate you telling Max the stories. That's how we pass respect onto our youth, through the stories of those young brave men from our village, who gave their lives. And thank you for the donation, we are nearly there.
Judy, thank you. What can I say? You are helping us protect our heritage and remember those men and women who gave so much for this country. Lest we forget.
