Surfers healing is a non profit organisation that takes kids with autism surfing
Nationwide
Surfers healing is a non profit organisation created to take kids with autism surfing.
It was started around 1999 by Israel and Danielle Paskowitz due to their son Isaiah being born with autism. After 20 plus years of taking kids out on the water they are still amazed by the transformative power of the experience.
Many children with autism struggle with sensory overload, in other words simple sensations can overwhelm them. The weightlessness and rhythms of the ocean offer a therapeutic experience for kids with these sensory overloads.
Each year our volunteer staff camps all over the world give over 4500 children with autism and their families a fun and engaging day at the beach. Doing these camps all over the world made us realise how important it was to bring it back to our home, Aotearoa.
We have successfully run a camp in Raglan for the past 5 years and now we are hoping to offer this unique experience to more children around the country. We really appreciate your support. The Surfers Healing Aotearoa crew
