Hurricane Homelessness

  • Finally, some good news!

      22 May 2024

So there have been exciting goings on within the silence between my last update and now that have stalled updates and comic releases. Our home got evaluated and we got more than we were led to believe we were getting, which put us from a position where we couldn’t afford to live literally anywhere to being able to place an offer on a house. We’re looking at a home in Waiuku that’s unfortunately no longer within the boundaries of what can be considered Auckland, but only by just, and we can make it work. We even got our offer accepted! However, we still need to wait 5 days to see if the family who gave a higher (but conditional) offer before us can make their offer unconditional. If they can’t, it’s ours. The house needs… a bit of work done to say the least, and your donations will all be going toward the roof and driveway repairs which are critical changes since our non-4WD cars cannot reach the house at the moment and the roof is leaking so badly that there’s a drainage hole drilled into a squishy part of the ceiling and buckets strewn across the floor and in the attic. Your donations, kind words and wishes for our success in this have done a lot of heavy lifting in keeping our morale, hope and sanity high, genuinely. I have the best friends in the world and nobody can ever argue that because the internet has permanent irrefutable proof of them selflessly supporting me when I needed them most both here and in private messages. Bless you all, I love you, will update you soon

  • Wow + Rewards??

      31 March 2024

Today I logged in wanting to give updates on this fundraiser (nothing new has happened, we’re still waiting on more info, but I want to do something to reward the donors and make it worth your while. More on that at the end of this message) and saw the… incredible… $1230 that all of you pooled together to support me and my family. Thank you so much for all of this love and support, it’s overwhelming how much kindness there is in the world - the kindness from you.

When I told my parents, their jaws dropped, they stopped what they were doing, and after a long moment of shock said “wow… Oh my god… these people are so kind”.

I can see light returning to their eyes, a spark of hope and drive that I haven’t seen in a whole year.

Thank you so much for your donations, this is incredible help to us and every dollar serves as amazing emotional support to us all. As I write this, my dad is singing along to a Beatles song in his headphones when just earlier he had his serious face on.

For the rewards I was thinking of releasing one comic per every donation on my Instagram page @Battle_Goldfish to keep the story going and the fundraiser alive and even have the donors influence the storyline. Alternatively I could translate really funny Russian jokes to English. I’m not sure how interesting this would be for all of you but if you have any other ideas I’d love to hear them! I’ll be releasing the first comic soon. Much love xxx

  • So we got a phone call today...

      21 March 2024

Today we got a phone call telling us that we have 3 months to accept the buyout offer and it's been... stressful to say the least as we haven't been able to secure many more funds since the last phone call.

We've lost one of our income streams as I have had my third surgery to fix the previous two unsuccessful ones and can no longer go to work anymore and I may be looking at round 8 of antibiotics soon depending on how I heal. My mother's business is also struggling to get off the ground, so it's only my father who is working now. I wish I could give good news, I really do, but I can't.

Thank you so much to all those who donated, I love you very much, thank you for doing this for me and my family, we wept tears of joy in your honour over dinner a few nights ago. I wish you nothing but the best in life and I hope you live long and I hope above all that you live well.
