My heart is heavy today as I type this update. Our beautiful, courageous, strong Rebecca slipped peacefully away from this world on Wednesday morning. She had her beloved Jeff by her side and with her last breath came an end to a long and tough battle.

I had many chats with Rebecca over the six months she was sick, but often our conversations circled back to how overwhelmed we both were and continued to be by the immense love and support she received during that time. Love and utter kindness from both people she knew and people she didn't. Strangers with the most kind, passionate words of hope and wisdom, support and strength. You donated your hearts and money to this amazing woman and her family, and for that both she, I and the Hyndman and Gannaway families will be forever grateful. During her dark moments when the light was not so bright, she told me she held onto those words and comments.

So thank you, each and every one of you. The difference you have made to this family is immeasurable.

Hi Anna, I am a friend of Kate's who I met here in the UK. It's 5:am here and I have just read the news update I am lost for words. I am just so sorry it had to end this way. As parents to a 2.5 year old girl, our heart goes out to Jeff, baby Ben and all of Rebecca's friends and family. You have done a tremendous job helping and raising awareness. RIP Rebecca :'( ysmaen & eddie x

  • Where we are at

      30 April 2016

Hi again all - just a quick update to let you know that yesterday Rebecca had a portacath inserted so that she can start a new chemo regime with the aim of extending the efficacy of the drugs beyond how they're performing currently. The minor operation was complicated by the clots in her main veins but it's in and we're hoping to start the new treatment next week. Longer update to come then, but the family sends their love and gratitude to all. x

To all those who are with us on this journey – an update.

Thank you. I don’t have any possible way to thank each and every person that has shared positive vibes, prayers, thoughts, donations, kind words of support and encouragement. I cannot begin to describe the feeling of overwhelming warmth and strength I take from each of your posts – on the days when life is a bit dark, they help me get through. Knowing that this fund can go towards keeping my two boys looked after with a home they can call their own is beyond priceless for me and my gratitude for this is endless. If I could hug each of you, I absolutely would.

To give you a quick update on me – things are tough but we are forging our way. Forging a path that rests on hope and positivity and that looks away from the horrible medical statistics. My recent CT scan showed ‘marked’ reductions in the size of my tumours, which is fantastic. I hugged the oncologist….not sure he was expecting that but that’s just me. So, for now, I continue with aggressive chemotherapy every three weeks and hope that the positive results continue. In the days after chemo I am a broken body – unable to do much at all and I wanted every person along with me on my journey to know that it is in those times that I tap into the strength you’ve so selflessly sent and push on.

Big baby Ben is now 4 months old and a whopper. He gives me the greatest joy I’ve ever known and is doing so well. I am sure he’s been here before and knows how to make his mum and dad and family smile all day, every day.

So, there’s my wee update. Thank you, from the deepest part of my soul. Please know that each and every person is helping us navigate this horrible road - I hope with the dignity and strength you are lending us.

    R xxx
