A plea for help with AED consumables.
Wellington, Lower Hutt City
I recently purchased a Defibrillator and joined a group called GoodSam - Responder. (GS)
This group is purely on a volunteer basis.
However the ongoing costs of running the AED is a little more than I thought.
Our (GS) role is to assist the Ambulance and Fire Service in callouts to possible Heart Attack.
As a GS I get an alert and try to make the scene prior to Ambulance or Fire arriving and administer CPR until either arrives.
My idea was to arrive with an AED, and owning my own one, meant it could save valueable minutes.
The ongoing cost of an AED is that the shock pads can only be used on one patient, and then have to be discarded.
Further the battery pack cannot be recharged so has limited life. That life being 4 years or 200 shocks.
My plea here is to assist with just the costs of replacing Pads and battery as required.
These costs are not covered by any of the Emergency services.
There are a growing number of "Public access" AEDs around NZ and a growing number of GS.
There is a website and APP to locate these AEDs (https://aedlocations.co.nz/)
Ideally I would like to have 2 sets of Pads to allow me the ability to be able to use my AED whilst a replacement set of Pads are delivered.

To join you will need a current First Aid certificate and be willing to help if or when called.
Thank you to any (and every) one who helps.
