Bernard's life was tragically taken on Saturday 26 September 2020 in a downhill mountain biking crash in Nelson. He has left behind his partner Kristie and his nearly four year old son Emrys. They were a tight little family and loved each other so much. Bernard was a very hands on, loving and caring dad with a great sense of humor who always had a smile on his face.

His loss will leave a gaping hole in their lives forever, and right now we would like to be able to help Kristie in this difficult time as she goes forward with supporting their little boy on her own, and so that she doesn't have to worry about going back to work straight away whilst still grieving.

There is no obligation to donate but even if you can spare anything, even if it's just $1, every cent helps to go toward trying to make their life just a little bit easier and would be massively appreciated.

I’ve donated where I can. Bernard was a friend of a friend. We only hung out a few times but he invited me to his 21st, then we started seeing each other round uni, then just randomly. I just remember him being a good dude. And reading all these comments, thats exactly who he was, just an awesome guy to the world. Even though I only knew him a bit, his passing spaced me a bit because we have such similar lives, family and such. Once again giving me some perspective Bernard. Strength to your family.

I met Bernard a few years ago at a soil science conference, with both of us being MTBers, we got along well obviously! Bernard was a very well regarded character in the soil science community, and seen as a future leader in the field. I will miss him greatly. Thinking of you Kristie and Emrys. Arohanui.
