Everyday superstar India-Rose might be stuck at home forever

$68,605 of $72,242 goal
Given by 184 generous donors in 11 weeks

India-Rose needs a mobility van to continue to access her community, education, medical and therapy needs.

Auckland

Our daughter and sister India-Rose has had a difficult start to life but has faced it with fierce bravery and determination.

We are grateful for her drive to live, born at 29 weeks weighing just 1080 grams, she suffered a rare and significant brain hemorrhage at 16 days old.

In her first year of life she was profoundly deaf, had low vision and her coordination and motor function did not develop as hoped.

Three-and-a-half-years on her hearing has recovered, her vision is normal and her personality and intelligence sparkles.

Everyday we encounter the challenges of meeting her medical needs and getting about on wheels. Lately, we have been struggling to get out at all. Indie’s equipment is heavy, her mum’s back is injured from lifting it and now she needs an even bigger wheelchair.

These challenges mean we need to get a modified van so Indie can travel in her wheelchair. It will also need to have enough room for her three big brothers. These vans come with a hefty price tag and our financial resources are stretched, we are reluctantly asking for support to purchase the vehicle.

Complicating matters for our family is that we simultaneously need to extensively modify our home to accommodate Indie’s disability related needs and equipment. This is in addition to the extra costs of non-funded equipment and private therapy to help Indie fulfill her potential.

In the last year Indie has had 2 surgeries, 33 nights in hospital, 4 emergency ambulance rides, 11 day stay admissions to ED and this month alone there are 26 medical, therapy and equipment appointments. We simply do not have the resources to fundraise and therefore humbly ask for help to purchase this special van.

Please consider donating to support our daughter participate in her community, attend education and continue to sparkle. Your donation, no matter how small, will make a real and everyday difference to our daughter’s life.

The van has arrived!  28 September 2016

Well Team Indie we did it!

Today we took delivery of her modified mobility van. Thank you to all the people who donated their time, presence and financial support. Collectively you have given India-Rose her freedom, independence and privacy. She will be able to continue to access the community like her peers, hooray!

When I first learned we needed this vehicle and how much it cost, it was completely overwhelming and I simply could not imagine reaching this point. It has been an exercise in faith and perseverance, and total amazement at the love and support that exists for India-Rose and our whanau. So dance with delight and be happy! You did this for Indie and for that, we thank you.

Please share this post so all the people who were involved know just how important their help was.
