Update
I’m sorry to have to inform all of you wonderful people who have contributed to help keep Mark alive that after a brave fight, Mark passed away this morning.
The family are grappling with the loss of a husband, father, son, brother, uncle, cousin and a friend in such tragic circumstances.
We will update you on the arrangements once we have come to terms with our loss.
The Give A Little page will remain open to help support Chi, Nate and Mark’s children in NZ through this time.
Mark had a motorbike accident last week and is in a coma with a fractured skull.
Mark has no insurance to cover his medical costs and unlike NZ there is no free healthcare or ACC.
The hospital require money to be deposited in advance of treatment, even though the machines are keeping him alive while his brain heals.
Doctors said he had a 60% chance of surviving the transfer from Nha Trang to a better equipped hospital in Ho Chi Minh. He survived.
It is too early to know what impact the accident has had but if he comes out of the coma it's likely he will need many months of rehabilitation to get his body and brain to function as well as it can after the accident.
Mark has lived in Vietnam for the last few years with his Vietnamese wife and their 3 year old son. He set up the kiwi bar and restaurant last year and enjoyed hosting locals, expats and tourists. He grew up in Palmerston North and went to Massey University.
I have set up this page to support my brother and his family
Money will go towards hospital bills and rehabilitation. In the event he doesn't make it money will be used to support his wife and son.
