Purpose: Non funded drugs, guilt free fun family road trip and taking financial pressure off family going forward.
Otago
Meet Michael Heiler. Amazing husband, best Dad in the world, respected engineer, perfect brother and brother-in-law, adored son and son-in-law, and friend to many.
In August 2018 Mike was diagnosed with bowel cancer and what a fight he has had. Mike had to move with his family from their home near Wanaka to ChCh to obtain the best treatment possible and to keep the family together.
Bowel surgeries and chemo followed by the devastating news that the cancer has spread to his lungs, liver and kidney. More surgery and chemo and more courageous fighting and now the devastating news that Mike has a brain tumour. So add to the treatment plan, brain surgery and radiotherapy.
Mike is fighting hard for his wife Turid and his boys Nicholas (12), Timothy (10) and Daniel (7), and will continue to fight hard for his family but ……
It is time.
It is time to get some financial help from his friends and community
It is time to have some guilt free fun with his family and go on his road trip
It is time for some non-funded drugs that may extend his life
It is time to remind Mike that we are all in this fight with him
It is time to take the financial pressure off Mike and assist with looking after his family in the future
But there is still time for Mike and the fight continues.
It you can support Mike please do. But more importantly please share to all your friends and contacts. Many hands make light work.

Non funded drugs (avastin, keytruda and potentially lonsur), guilt free fun family road trip and taking financial pressure off family going forward.
Mike Heiler - Feb 2020 update 7 February 2020
So it is time for an update. I wish we had better news for the new year but unfortunately we do not. However, a HUGE thank you to all those who have donated to Mike and his family so far. This has allowed many ice creams to be consumed whilst travelling around the North Island on the family “roadie” and some magic memories have been made for Turid and her boys. Unfortunately Mike suffered a large seizure on day one of the roadie so a modified trip was organised which included a last minute and brief trip back to Christchurch for Mike and Turid for an urgent appointment (paid for by your donated Givealittle money thank you).
Mike and Turid met with the Oncologist this week to make plans for future treatment. Mike is having surgery to place a port to allow direct access for the new chemo regime, as well as for Avastin, which is the unfunded option that is hoped to provide Mike with a bit more time. The advice was to prioritize time with the family, to tell the kids about time frames possibly being months and to write cards and letters to the kids for their future birthdays and major life events. The cost of the Avastin is somewhere between $20-30k and both Mike and Turid will probably need to look at reducing work commitments and really focus on family times.
Lets help Mike get that time with his kids and help them enjoy the time they have left together.......
Please please please share.
Thank you for all of your support
Karen and Dave Heiler
