It's time for us to help keep Juanita fighting ❤️🎤

    Kia ora koutou,

    Thanks so much for sharing and all your donations flooding in! I am sharing an update on Juanita's journey from her husband Warren ❤️ After doors closing last week and being told to enjoy her time with family, the whānau have the opportunity to travel to Melbourne to pursue the treatment not funded in NZ.     The last few weeks have been pretty tough, we really need your help.

    A few weeks ago she had a pre-surgical appointment at Waikato hospital. We began the preparation for what is going to be a very invasive surgery followed by a lengthy recovery.

    Another CT scan followed by an oncologist's appointment last Thursday, the news was not great, the disease has spread and his advice was to not go ahead with the surgery but to spend time with family instead.

    Pharmac has once again declined our oncologists application for funding.

    We were devastated, our family rallied and we had a weekend filled with whanau time.

    Move forward to Saturday afternoon, we get a phone call from our oncologist who has spoken to a GIST specialist in Australia, a glimmer of hope and a possible trip to Melbourne to meet with them.

    An Australian Rare Cancers Advocate is also jumping on board to help Juanita.

    Australia seem prepared to help where our own Government will not.

    Please share this far and wide as I can't sit back any longer, I'm going to make this as public as I can.

    Hi guys, Neetz here. I want to again just thank everyone for your love, your prayers, for giving financially when days are tough enough for you all. Please know our family are so thankful and blessed by you all. This outpouring of love in this long, and emotionally taxing journey is made so so much easier knowing you all have got our backs. Im super grateful also to Matt Baker (and Leanne) for putting on a special fundraising gig coming up in a couple of weekends at Frings!! Thanks guys. My Kurfew crew are keen to have a bit of a jam as well so we'll see you there for a time of FUN and MUSIC. Thank you all so much. Arohanui x

  • 28 June 26 - Update of Neetz

    Kia ora everyone,

    Time for an update on Juanita.

    The fourth line treatment that she needs (Ripretinib) is still waiting on the list for funding.

    This week Pharmac have declined special funding.

    Her oncologist also tried approaching the company producing the drug to see if there was some way to access it at a more affordable rate, he has heard that there isn't anything they can do. Her oncologist is going to counter submit back to pharmac with even more info re: the rarity of my case (being a familial gene also), hoping for a reconsideration.

    Juanita's options are running out fast.

    Although this journey is getting more challenging and scarier, she wants everyone to know she is totally feeling God's PEACE and comfort in the situation and her head is actually in a really good space!

    She is living each day as positively as possible with great support.

    So please, continue to share the page far and wide with your networks and community so we can help with unfunded treatment and other support.

  • Update on Neetz

    A brief update for you all.

    Neetz had a surgical appointment today. She is priority 1 for cancer surgery, which is expected to be in April sometime. The surgeon will be more intensive and try to get better margins in removing the cancer this time.

    Her oncologist and surgeon have not given up yet, in spite of having discussed a referral to hospice for palliative care.

    Neetz expresses her deep love, gratitude and thanks to everyone who has given to the givealittle page, they are blown away by the generosity of people, both known and unknown. These funds may be needed soon for unfunded treatment.

    Neetz is feeling well in her head and heart. Her faith is bringing a lot of strength and courage, and she chooses to declare peace over herself in the face of challenging news.

    She also draws a lot of strength from her whānau and appreciates everyone's support and care.

    Once again from me (Arna), a huge thanks for your generosity in giving and sharing the page. Every gift really blesses me and my own whānau. One person can only do so much, but together we can achieve much more.

    Please continue to send your thoughts, aroha (love), care and support to the Basset whānau and pray for our beautiful Neetz, for her strength and healing. And if you can, share the page, it really does make a difference ❤️

    Just in case you didn't see her comment on the last update - here's a message from our lovely Neetz ❤️

    I actually dont have the words to fully express my gratitude and thanks to you Arna, and toevery single person who has, out of the goodness of their hearts shown their Awhi/ support for my family and I at this time x. We are not used to accepting things like this, or being on the receiving end … so its just blown us away and we are very humbled. I am feeling very loved and supported in this tough journey. The road ahead feels so much more bearable when we have all of you standing with us x As Ive stated previously…. I am nowhere near giving up in this battle ahead, and will continue even more fervently with your backing, and my faith in God x. As reluctant as I was to accept a page like this, or financial support, Many of you have made me see that this is an action of love, which will be of huge benefit and basically I need to suck it up and get over myself!     I know Juanita and Warren are really overwhelmed by the outpouring of love for them.
