  • ITAV Hub Update

      28 April 2018
    Main image

"It Takes A Village or aka ITAV" started as a Pay it forward page on Facebook, 12 months later there are now 10,000 members who regularly pay forward items, list wanted posts and interact with each other providing advice.

There is a gap in the local community for a support network for low — middle income families in need. The page also gathers donations for baby bundles, and is in the process of extending this to toddler bundles.

The Facebook group was started in December 2016. The online community is growing very rapidly, every week it takes on new Volunteers to keep up with running the three pay it forward groups.

As these groups grow and develop an insight is gained into what the Canterbury community needs and is lacking. The dedicated team work hard to ensure that the groups are run in a fair and reasonable manner.

The It Takes A Village Hub (the 'Hub' hereafter) wish to create a support service network In Canterbury with the potential to extend this service Nationwide.

The aim is to provide a safe and judgement free zone for people from all walks of life.

As the support hub grows, it will collaborate with other agencies and charities to ensure it assists clients to receive the help they need.

    Our Purpose

Is to be a charity organization that will provide Canterbury communities with a support network, resources and other free services that will enable members of the communities to better themselves as individuals, their families, neighbours and friends; bringing the community together in a modern world, as a village of support.

    Our Mission Statement

To provide support, resources and service that is free from judgement, within a safe, respectful and understanding environment, to the best of our ability, to members of the Canterbury regions. We will not discriminate against any individual, family or community, no matter their religious belief, political preference, racial background, status or history.

We aim to create a Village of support in the Canterbury Region that is readily available to anyone who needs us.

    Our values

Inspirational — create an engaging space that inspires self-confidence to achieve personal goals

Transparent — 100% trustworthy and fair to all of our stakeholders and clients

Approachable — consistently evolving to meet our local environment, economical and client's needs

Value — providing services that are fundamental to our concept and add value to our client's day to day lives.

    Our Motto

"No one can help everyone, but everyone can help someone"

  • ITAV Charity Update

      10 March 2018

    -- ITAV CHARITY UPDATE --

We are so proud to update you all on the Charity side of ITAV. Here is some of the hard work that's been going on behind the scenes:

    - We are so close to reaching charity status! The board has signed the paperwork and within the next 12 weeks we should know more.

    - We now have a Marketing/Charity Team dedicated to the charity. At the start of this year the Marketing/Charity Team had 1-2 members and now sits at 12!

    - To enable us to get to the Baby Expo so that we can reach the wider Canterbury community and provide support to more Canterbury families, we have launched the 'ITAV Fundraiser Quiz Night'. We are looking forward to meeting more people in our community, having a great night and raising for our community.

    - We have set up a partnership with CBK so that when diners mention 'ITAV' or 'It Takes a Village' at the register, 10% of the bill is donated to ITAV to put back into the community.

On top of all of this we are ticking away at our Baby Expo to do list and planning how we can best support our community. But we can't do it without the support of our amazing village and we need to keep fundraising to ensure we can continue doing what we love; helping our community.

If you think you can help us please donate to our Give-a-Little page. Please check out the link below.

$2, $5, $10, $20, what ever you can afford; anything would help.

Wow! It has been a busy couple of months here at ITAV. Here are some of the awesome things that have been happening behind the scenes:

    - The Baby Bundles has a growing team of volunteers to support families with children newborn-1year.

    - We were mentioned in an article on Stuff News related to our recycling of working order items.

    - We have had a couple of shout outs and shares of our pages from other community initiatives.

    - A team has been formed who specialise on getting us to the Baby Expo.

    - Our total following has reached over 10,000 members and on 'It Takes a Village Canterbury' alone we are only 440 members away from 10,000!!!

    - The Baby Bundles Team has grown from 1 team member to 6 team members! And over 45 Baby Bundles have been gifted to families in need.

  • Exciting news!!!

      25 January 2018

    😁 EXCITING NEWS! 😁

We are hoping to head to the Baby Expo in Christchurch on the 9th and 10th of June. This is a huge step for ITAV and will take some support from the community.

We have helped 35 families with baby bundles in only a 7 week period. To make ITAV Baby Bundles a permanent service that is sustainable we will need corporate sponsorship.

We need to raise the funds to have an ITAV Baby Bundles stall but unfortunately we can not keep digging in to our own pockets. We need your help please!

We hope that from being at the expo we will get our name out to businesses to help support us in creating our ‘It Takes A Village Hub Playcafe and support service network’.

We believe in the ITAV Baby Bundles and can see this becoming a nationwide initiative and help service. We saw gaps in the system and we are providing accessible help for our Tamariki.

We feel privileged and look forward to spreading our name further in the community so assist us to help more people in Canterbury.

If you think you can help us please donate to our give a little page. As a guide line we are requesting a small, one off donation from our members. $2, $5, $10, $20. What ever you can afford, anything would help.

Pop by on the day and say hello 😄

  • ITAV Hub Update

      19 January 2018
    Main image

We have been getting asked more frequently about what ITAV is looking to achieve and what we do.

We have a vision of creating a Village Hub and Support Service network In Canterbury and possibly nation wide.

Our online pay it forward communities are growing at a rapid rate, every week we are approving approximately 200-300 new members across the groups.

Therefore we are constantly taking on new volunteers to keep up with the running these groups.

It Takes a Village Canterbury NZ

It Takes a Village North Canterbury NZ

It Takes a Village South Canterbury NZ

As we watch these groups grow and develop we gain an insight in to what our Canterbury community needs and is lacking in terms of community and support services.

We envision 'The Village Hub' a support service network and a community Play Cafe and adjoining community support services.

We are willing to collaborate with other support services and organisations, as they say it really does, take a village.

We are now looking for help from our village. To make this dream and vision become a reality reality.

Can you or someone you know be of assistance in relation to accounting , Graphic design, Marketing, fundraising and Law.

If you or anyone you know could be of assistance please contact us.

One of our initiatives we have up and running is our ITAV Baby Bundles, providing care packages for families with a child under the age of one, providing them with clothing, bedding, nappies, bath products, toys and books . This has all been made possible by our supportive online communities. We have achieved this solely through donations from our groups and are proud to be able to help alleviate child poverty in Canterbury.

We are in the process of working on extending this service to provide bundles for children from 1 to 3 years of age.

    Our initiatives include but are not limited to;

    ● Play cafe, this will be specifically designed to suit children ages 0 to 6 with separate areas for non mobile children and new crawlers.

    ● Community Fridge

    ● Community Sustainable edible gardens

    ● Budgeting Classes

    ● Waste free classes- eg Cloth nappies, Re- useable pads, Worm farms

    ● Community Cooking Classes

    ● Sewing classes

    ● Car seat Installation classes

    ● Music and movement

    ● Art and sensory sessions

    ● Story Time

    ● Tumble times

    ● A venue for community talks

    ● A venue for birthday parties

    ● Yoga for toddlers

    ● Brain gym

    ● Mum and bub fitness classes

    ● Children's haircuts

    ● Free WiFi

Thank you for taking the time out of your day to learn more about our visions and plans to help our community to connect and support each other.

    Thank you

    Itav team xx
