Ivy-Reins T1 diabetes journey🌸

My daughter Ivy-Rein was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes on November 26th 2021 at the age of 3.

This means that she no longer produces her own insulin and is now reliant on self injected insulin 3x or more a day for the rest of her life. This also follows with continuous finger pricks multiple times a day.

We are currently trialing Dexcom g6, a CGM (continuous glucose monitor) to help manage her diabetes in the most efficient way possible. Having this device Ivy-Rein no longer has to endure finger pricks. (We are having to prick her fingers up to 10x a day)

With the help of this monitor we can manage her blood glucose levels to prevent her from having a hypo (hypoglycaemia) which if not treated can be fatal. The total cost for the Dexcom g6 is $379.50 per month on a 12 month subscription. This includes 3x sensors(which last 10 days per sensor) & 1x transmitter (which lasts 90 days)

We hope that Pharmac will look into this to give every type 1 diabetic in NZ a chance at having one of these devices as it can make a HUGE difference in their every day lives!
