This page was set up to help me and my family out with the financial requirements of making it in the sport of ice hockey.
Christchurch, Canterbury
Hello, my name is Jacob Carey, an 18-year-old ice hockey player born in Christchurch, New Zealand. I started playing hockey at the age of 7 as my brother was a goalie and I wanted to score on him. Shortly after, I completely fell in love with the sport and haven’t looked back since. At the age of 13, I left home to pursue my hockey ambitions at A21 Academy in Windsor, Ontario. After four years there, I began my junior hockey career with the New Jersey Rockets where I currently play. I've been challenged with countless adversities, such as being cut from teams, injuries, and all the challenges that come with growing up away from home.
My ultimate goal in life is for hockey to become a mainstream sport in New Zealand. Part of the journey of working towards this goal is representing my country on the international stage to help grow the game. Recently, I’ve been selected to represent my country at both the IIHF u20 and men's world championships in divisions 3a and 2b respectively. However, because hockey is a minority sport in NZ, we have to pay to play. The cumulative financial requirement for both championships is $10,000.
Another part of the journey is reaching the pinnacle of hockey, the NHL, to show younger Kiwis that anything is possible. All excess funds raised will go towards training and opportunities for me to achieve these goals. Every cent is dearly appreciated and please be a part of turning my vision into reality. Thank you!
All funds raised will go towards giving me the freedom to play for my country at the upcoming international championships and helping me achieve my goal of becoming the first Kiwi to make the NHL. Funds will go towards uniform, travel, accommodation, etc as well as further training.
